Did I mishear ?

At the start of the movie, as an intro to the Eisenheim's backstory, Chief Inspector Uhl says something like: "we know everything about him, we have spoken to everyone that ever knew him".

This seemed to clash with the "And then he went away (to who-knows-where) for 15 years until he showed up in Vienna" (paraphrased) line.

Did I mishear or was that a stupid piece of scriptwriting ?

Isn't it an illusion that anyone really knows who anyone is? Maybe that speech was a play on the movie's title?

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

This, IMO, is to show how things are with Jesus Christ story.

He goes from being a child to a matured man. What happened in between for those 18 years is not known but all that matters is when he shows up again.

I am agnostic but i could see the same storylines between the two. Anyways thats my view.

Be well
