The Prince was an Austrian leader who was cruel, possibly murdered a previous lover and finally when defeated, withdrew into a locked room and shot himself. Does this ring any bells?

Otherwise you would know that the certain leader you were referring to was not Austrian at the time of his becoming leader! He was born there, but had lost his Austrian citizenship a long, long time before. He was then stateless before he became German!
Oh and the prince in this film quite obviously was not the leader, but, as his title suggests, just the Crown Prince.

Oh I knew Adolf had moved to Germany, joli1921 so dont be so patronising.....as well as differences there are parallels between Hitler and the crown prince. Not that I thought this film was an allegory for the destruction of Nazi Germany.

Thing is - there are no parrallels between Hitler and the Crown Prince! Just because both were born in Austria, doesn't make it any less of a really bad comparison. Any comparison with Hitler has to be with a REALLY horrible person and not just some movie antagonist. He was one of the worst monsters in known history, after all. There are about 700 levels of bad until you get to the Stalins, Hitlers et al.
