No, I took that just as a reminder of who he is. On second viewing sure, but I still think it wasn't meant THAT way.

My giveaway line was: Do you really want to go away with me? :-) After that, I knew it was some kind of plan and I hoped very much that she was still alive. But I was never 100% sure...I would have accepted them joined in death as well.

The quote was just to remind her who he was. At the start of the movie (when they were kids and were caught), she asks him to "make them disappear".

And pretty much after meeting again, this is his first line - that helped jog her memory and she recognised who he was.
