did you/have you read the book?

did anyone read the book prior to seeing the movie, or read the book after watching the movie? I loved this movie a ton. It was very well made and an extremely beautiful movie. Alot of people compare it to The Prestige. I love watching the prestige. This is more of a magical movie than the prestige. The prestige to me was always a mystery enveloped in a magic show setting. They are both really great and definitely shouldn't be compared just because they involve magic. Also with people complaining about the magic tricks in this, isn't part of the movie and the story...that it is magic? I can't explain alot of things David Blane {for instance} does, and i feel perfectly fine by saying wow that's really cool. Sometimes not knowing is better than knowing

What'd she whisper to you?
she called me a dirty word

That was my thought, dyed_red! If there is a book, I am all over that!

The movie is based on short story "Eisenheim the Illusionist" by Steven Millhauser. http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?82874 has a list of the anthologies and collections the story appears in.
