Simplistic in a sense

The movie looks beautiful and acted admirably but the case against the prince was quite simplistic. We do know he was planning to overthrow the emperor because was giving in to democracy (thousands of voices screaming to be heard). But was there any hard evidence linking him to the plot? I didn't see this in the film.

Even with Inspector Uhl being a witness, yes, it would be a weak case, but I believe the important part was that the emperor now knew of his son's plans to overthrow him. Most likely he would take some action against his son, possibly even dismiss him from the line of succession. Add the mental stress from the public's aggressive opinion of him and the effects of heavy drinking and it's a breakdown waiting to happen.
