So the Crown Prince was unfortunate collateral damage ?
What did he really do to deserve his fate ? It turned out he was right all along .

shareI really don't know. The second time I saw the movie all I could think about what who was the really good guy in the movie? I mean, the crown prince is a douche, but wasen't he trying to fix the "Falling empiere?"
I don't think he deserved to die.
Had he been arrested for Sophie's murder and executed for it, you could argue that. But he wasn't.
Was he a jerk who might have deserved vigilante justice - had that been what happened? That would be down to one's opinion. There were strong rumors that he had a history of brutalizing women, possibly murdering one, and this would seem to be bourn out by his treatment of Sophie. He also plans to overthrow his father, dismiss parliament altogether and rule by autocratic decree despite his supposed "progressive sympathies." He does not seem bothered by the idea that his coup d'etat will likely involve his father's death, and when told his fiancee is dead he calmly asks if his dumping her might have induced her to commit suicide. Dude is a sociopath at best.
But when he takes his own life, he does not do it because he might be accused of murder; he does it because his very real and treasonous takeover plot is exposed. He is right that the evidence framing him for murder is all illusion - but his own plots are not, and that is what he was going to be arrested for, which is when he decided to take his life.
His fate was in his own hands. The illusion was merely the catalyst that made Uhl decide to expose the treason.
