Anarchist evil couple

Seriously, they plot against the crown prince and all for them to be togheter. Not to mention they drove him into suicide.
Sure sure, entire movie the crown prince is portrayed as one bad apple, still doesnt give them the right to totally drive him into the ground. Set up a murder that didnt even take place, i believe they call that obstruction of justice and is very much punishable by law.
Any way, still good movie to watch, but the "heroes" arent quite as heroic considering what they are doing.

Even less so when you consider the aftermath. After Crown Prince Leopold committed suicide his cousin, Archduke Fraz Ferdinand, became sole heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He was considered a weak minded simpleton which allowed the Serbian conspirators enough courage to assassinate him a few years later. That act more than anything kicked off WWI.

My point is, the Serbians would never have the gall to attempt an assassination on Leopold, who was a clever, formidable man. So ip so-facto, Eisenheim and Sophie indirectly caused the deaths of millions and essentially re-shaped the world. If you continue to follow the chain of events, the result of their (fictional) actions is quite staggering...

The Russian Revolution
The Rise of Communism
And so on and so forth...

There was no way for Eisenheim and Sophie to know this. And the prince CHOSE to commit suicide. He could have lived and faced the music.

Sorry, forgot to call the Prince by his real-life name Crown Prince Rudolf. Who really did commit suicide which really led to everything else I mentioned.

Well, the Crown Prince was hardly an innocent patsy. He had murdered another woman (a mistress perhaps?) and was planning a coup d'etat against his father, the Emperor; the Prince's rather unhinged personality and violent tendencies (and by the very nature of a coup, id est loyalists fighting against an insurrection), it's unlikely to have been a bloodless takeover.

something terribly clever.

yes all true, like i said, he was a bad apple, and made sure in the movie to be portrayed as a bad apple so the audience would have no pity whatsoever what faith fell upon him.
It doesnt diminish the fact that the things the heroes of the movie did where as equally if not, far worse, as bad. And its a problem with a most if not all movies. They make sure you dislike the bad guy in order to justify whatever the good guy is doing is, well, good. Howmany of these heroes in howmany movies are nothing more then mass murdering psychopaths?
