I loved the movie, the story, cinematography, and actors. Except Jessica Biel. She was out of her depth in this movie. How she gets roles outside of "Summer Catch" is beyond me. She must have the best agent in Hollywood.
I didn't know Liv was ever in the running. She's one of my favourite actresses, but I think she would've been a bit too trembly and misty-eyed for this role. Jessica played it very reserved and earthy and that's what the story called for. She was convincing as historical Eastern/Central European nobility. Liv has a much more expressive face and a more modern Western Europe/American look about her.
The mirror... it's broken. Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.
Wow. Now I'm even more bummed out. I love movies like this, but knowing that Jessica Biel is in it ruins it for me...she truly is a horrible actress. I love Liv though, and wish she would have been in it instead...would have been perfect! Bummer.
That's why I never went to see it in theater. I was excited until I saw her billed and skipped it. I just watched it for the first time last night. It definitely would have been better with someone else.
Absolutely. It's been awhile since I've seen The Illusionist, but I remember practically rolling my eyes at Biel's performance in this film. It was all the worse that she was supposed to be an "it girl" and she couldn't inspire a moth to chase light in this.
She's not the worst actor I've seen, but I'm scratching my head trying to come up with a place that Jessica Biel has done really impressive work. Bojack Horseman? Maybe it's poor fits with roles (like here) or just bad material (Blade: Trinity) but I don't think she's very good.
Still, not to criticize her too much, her acting was much better than others in 7th Heaven. I can't believe I watched almost all the seasons of that show when I was younger....
