Millennium Goals: the G8's Commitment

The 1999 G8 Summet established 8 goals for the new Millennium. 189 Heads of State and Government adopted the Millennium Declaration (Millennium Development Goals, MDG) in 2000, in which they pledged to meet eight goals by the end of 2015:
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger;
2. Achieve universal primary education;
3. Promote gender equality and empowering women;
4. Reduce child mortality;
5. Improve maternal health;
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases;
7. Ensure environmental sustainability;
8. Develop a global partnership for development.

The usual. Promises, promises - never kept... and the world suffers.

Every government has to take the priority to pursuit the benefit of his own country. Hence we had wars, terrorism, drug, SARS, and many new difficulties to deal with. It aint easy to fulfil these goals but we believe we have tried to deal with them rationally.
