The Christ Connection (some spoilers)
During the movie, Christ is mentioned several times, and the image of the cross shows up a lot - most notably with the burning ship, I think.
Perhaps because of this motif, I couldn't help but contrast Beowulf's conduct with Christ's. Specifically, I'm thinking of the temptation aspect. Christ goes into the desert and is offered the world by Satan; all Jesus has to do is give in to Satan and worship him. Christ refuses.
Beowulf is offered a similar deal, but he falls short, is seduced, and loves glory (and sex) more than truth and honour.
