The whole 'seductive Grendel's Mother' idea...

...seems to have been pilfered from the 1999 cyberpunk Beowulf starring Christopher Lambert, even down to the succubus-esque dream visits. How shameful is that?

Nope. In the 1999 movie the origin of Grendel was the same, he was Hrothgar's son via an affair he had with the Mother (who had the form of a tall blonde). Except there Hrothgar didn't know this until the very end and was killed trying to kill them both.
