What's the appeal of this show?

I first watched this show having heard nothing about it either positive or negative, so had no expectations whatsoever. But still I was disappointed.

I'll admit that I'm not the biggest fan of catchphrase based comedy, because it can lead to lazy writing, but this was so difficult to watch. This and Little Britain have each had two or more series - how? Each episode is only slightly different from the one that preceded it, and is virtually identical to the one that follows it. The script is so basic and repetitive that it pained me to watch it. The only reason that I watched as many episodes as I did was because I thought that it showed promise. A shame I was proved wrong.

The worst comedy I have seen in ages, even worse than the IT crowd.

I agree that the latest series of extras really highlighted just how bad catchphrase comedy really is. It was amazing to watch catherine tate shortly after to see how spot on ricky gervais was.

its a bad take on a very tired and old formula. most of the people who like this are middle aged people who think they're being rebellious 'becuase its a bit rude'.

Middle Aged? Now you're just ignorant? Would you call a 19 year old student middle-aged? I beg to differ personally...People who dislike this type of show are ignorant...perhaps to them 'ignorance is bliss' rings true...As far as I'm concerned, they can remain ignorant..nothing will change them...you could stick 10 tons of dynamite up their arses and still their facial expression would have as much movement as Cher's.

You're obviously not studying the English language are you?

If that was supposed to be funny I can understand why you find Catherine Tate funny.

I completely agree with Axlix187.

Just take a look at Extras. Ricky Gervais created a sitcom within a sitcom just to show how pathetic and poorly written shows like The Catherine Tate Show are.

Do you think it is funny when people say, "Are you having a laugh?"

Next time you say, "Am I bovvered?" remember that you are the only one who thinks it is funny.

just for the record, there is nothing wrong with The IT Crowd.

But I agree otherwise; I don't understand what is supposed to be funny about this show, or its angle. Is it because she can change her face every sketch?
