If you say 'Am I Bovvered?' you are a moron

If you, YES YOU reading this, use the phrase "Am I bovvered?" in order to appear witty and clever to your friends, family, schoolmates or co-workers you are an idiot.
Sorry for breaking it to you but you are a dribbling, gormless simpleton so devoid of wit or invention you need to repeat an already frustratingly derivative, overused "catchphrase" to convey "how funny you are".
Repeating catchphrases from "The Catherine Tate show" is akin to having a sh!t in the street because you saw a dog do it.
I believe that any show that needs to rely on repitition as it's sole source of humour ("Little Britain", "The Catherine Tate Show" and the latest abomination "Tittybangbang") is about as appealing as cracking my skull open with a plastic ladle. Therefore I choose not to watch them.
However, avoiding the catchphrases is much, much harder. Everywhere I turn people are obnoxiously spouting these lame phrases always at an unnecesarily loud volume while their equally dense companions laugh and repeat the phrase back like a sort of bird call for morons.
Dullards on TV, teenage girls on buses, idiots in the pub, middle aged women...next time I hear one of you saying "Am I bovvered?", I'm going to have to kill you, sorry but you've left me no choice.

PS. Before any of you Tate fans (shudder) reply to this message by typing simply "Am I bovvered?" or any of its offshoots ("Does my face look bovvered" etc), don't. You may as well change your userI.D to Yes_i_am_a_moron_who_cant_think_for_myself and get it over with. It WON'T make you look funny or clever, it WILL expose you as a buffoon.

Thanks for listening, this rant has postponed my aneurysm for at least a couple of days.

Everytime I used that "Phrase" I used quotation marks, denoting that I was indeed, as the name suggests, QUOTING the phrase not using it myself, you arse.

I didn't once mention teenage mums. Read it again, I only referred to "teenage girls on buses", so get off your f ucking soap box.

I have nothing against teenage mothers, I am, however deeply prejuiced against dullard c unts.

I can't believe people are still crying about this post. F uck you very much.

I never have watched the Catherine Tate show, but I really agree with your post, the guy who was my supervisor would eiter be shouting that "Am I bovered" quote or the Little Britain quote, and even got disapointed when he missed a chanvce to say it that he could have said it, thinking we all would laugh when in reality, we had heard the quotes from him so much that there was no point in us even seeing these shows he watches anymore, and anyone who did laugh (me not being one who laughed at any of his quotes, not even the first time as I haven't even seen either the C.T. show or L.B.) was doing it purely out of politeness. if somebody went to him and said, "If you say 'Am I Bovvered?' you are a moron," they would be doing him a huge favour if he listened and stopped saying it.
I am for your post, mny reply was certainly not crying about your post, I agree 100% with your origional post here.

i agree that the term "am i bovvered" etc etc has been extremeley overused(irritatingly by the kind of person miss tate uses in the sketch) but i do quite like catherine tate's show ...its bloody funny guy!
...you must have some sense of humour to find at least one sketch you found yourself laughing at!!

can you say that you've never copied a quote from a film or programme?..probably not.

the one thing i do agree with in your post...tittybangbang...what the hell is that s-h-i-t...the only decent thing is "not the fat one" is quite cute..

Deluded?!!!! You're the person claiming Catherine Tate is an "extraordinary talent". THAT is deluded. "Extraordinary" comedic talents are artists few and far between that have revolutionised, and enhanced the landscape of modern comedy. Peter Cook was an extraordinary talent, Lenny Bruce and Bill Hicks were extraordinary talents, ...Catherine Tate is (however funny you find her) not.
She is not doing anything that hasn't been done before.
Her chosen format is a catchphrase based sketch show for Christs sake, it'd have to be pretty bloody spectacular to be considered "extraordinary" in any rational person's book.
Let's get some perspective shall we.

These are not Fan boards, they are boards intended to be used for expressing and debating opinions, I have an opinion on this show that I wished to put forward for people to read and reply to.
Also, it is so lame to start using the get out clause of calling me a troll simply because I don't agree with you. I enjoy debating things I have, either positive or negative, opinions on. How boring would the IMDB become if everyone agreed on everything?
Trolling is a phrase almost as annoying and over-used as "Am I bovvered?".

reply

domthewelsh, when I first read your post I was kind of annoyed that you babbled on about the same old thing, but as I've gone down I'm actully sympathising with you. That poster was wrong to slag off Wales just because she doesn't like you, and I will admit that when I first read your original post I was all set to write you a huge annoyed post back, but I would never go as far as to insult you or your country.

HOWEVER, I must say that I DO dosagree with your original post. I admit that all of these quotes can be annoying at times, but they can act as a social glue (wrong phrase I know, but it's late and I'm tired) too. People who have just met can get along fabuously over their love of Catherine Tate and her catchphrases. It is more or less the same thing as sci-fi fans uniting in their love over Star Trek, or English Literature Lovers uniting over their love of Shakespeare. While it may not be as highbrow or whatever, and it could be said that this is a frightening example of British Culture going down the pan (lol), it is just as important to those who enjoy what is, in my opinion, good comedy.

Also, just got to say, when you told people not to reply to your post with 'am I bovvred?' you were kind of asking for it lol. Only Joking

It was a simple error that seems blatant to me now, in the midst of a heated discussion however such mistakes are easy to make. I'm glad someone of an obviously superior linguinstic ability found the time to not only pedantically pick through my posts, but to use their intellect to call me a "prick", in response to said error. I got my words muddled, I most certainly must be a "prick".
Would you care to go through all of my old posts, not replying to the content but rather checking for spelling mistakes, misused punctuation etc?

Perhaps you could award me a mark out of 10 for general grammer, and please supply footnotes so I never have to suffer the indignity of having a stranger believe I'm a "prick" again.

PS. Is it just me or did you, on another thread, call a poster who enjoys saying "Am I bovvered?" a moron? Where you being satirical in reference to this thread or you a hypocrite as well as a pedant.

i agree with your point that people who use "bovvered" to be funny are morons. i thought someone (such as yourself) with a taste in comedy that rises above the catherine tate show (and, presumably, tripe like little britain) would see the funny side in someone calling someone else a prick for a minor lexical error.
