Agreed Ivan_targo. Same here, I'm also 23 and I started my horror fanaticism since I watched the likes of the Eye and Ju-on.

If you like Shutter, I think you will also like Alone. Its also from the same director man and believe me(I even wrote a review for it, if you have lots of time you can read my not-so-impressive review but hey, I can guarantee that it was really scary.

And also Ju-on(the 2009 releases) they're titled as Old Lady in White and Girl in Black notice how the titles really sound scary? Believe me. Watch it and I watched it midday and I can still say I'm peering through my hands at some parts.

And glad to see a fellow FGer here btw. Cheers!

Oh..hehe. I love Alone very much because of the twist..it really got me saying "WTF, never thought it was her other sister all this time!"lol.

Have you seen any Ju-on? I think you're going to like it. Horror is my favorite genre but I have to admit I still have a long list to watch. :(((

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll try "Perfect Blue"..wait what do you mean it isn't live action but Manga? Meaning, its animated? Or is it a Manga reading? I'm still currently reading Death Note but once I'm done I'll try to look for it.

Thanks Ivan_Targo. I'll read the manga first then compare it with the movie. That's what I do, I'm just holding myself from watching Death Note(live-action) even if I really want to watch it already..but I prefer reading it first so I can have a better understanding of the series. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll search for the Manga of Perfect Blue.

Thanks again and see you around.

Hey Ivan..yeah, it really is interesting. What have you checked, the manga or the live-action movie?

I'm currently reading the manga, if you have the time we can read it together! I'm still on chapter 42 and I'm loving it. I can compare it with Lost(do you watch that series?) where its not really action-packed, like say, Dragon Ball Z, but it works your brain. Its more of a psychological thriller. That's why I can't put it down(although I'm a bit of a slow reader so you'll probably finish it ahead of me .) And as much as I want to watch the movie already, I don't want to be spoiled and I think I can give a better critique if I read the manga first.

A brief overview(insofar as 42 chapters have tackled):The lead character discovers a "death note" which gives him the power to kill anyone, as in anyone, and another lead character, his arch-nemesis trying to discover his identity and stop him.

The only bad point I can think of it right now is the fact that it was a thrill/suspense-killer..here in Chapter 42, the picture gets bigger, a lot of twists happen which left me hanging..I don't know how to describe it but this is my reaction "Ugh. Last time I checked, they were still having a brain-war and now this twist(which I won't tell so as you won't be spoiled) happens???"

Yeah, the Manga is a good read. Good illustrations, really. And wow, I'm a bit pressured here, I hope you'll like it. But if anything adds to the wide readership of Death Note, its considered as one of Japan's loved animes, and a lot of people have been excited about a possible Hollywood live-action adaptation of it.

Wow good for you regarding the special edition of Shutter. I haven't seen it here in my local video stores. I just watched it online. The only one we have is Alone.

Hehehehe. Yeah I figured about my siggy just after I changed my previous one. Dang. lol. I don't really change siggy every time I post. I just decided to change it because I thought the previous one "Some people feel more pain in living than in dying" as much as I like it, I might be giving wrong impressions. You know, death as better than life? So this siggy is here to stay, although noticed I changed the blood into italics? Hehe. Just a brief background because I love this very much, about my siggy(wow talk about being talkative galore), I got them from Rorouni Kenshin..have you heard of that anime series? That's another favorite of mine. This line "You caused the rain to blood" was said by the lead character's love after she witnessed him killing one person while it was raining, there was blood all around..That's why she said "You..you caused the rain to blood"

Ivan, thanks for the links! I remembered though that the one I saw was I think the DVD cut because I've seen these cuts...they're familiar. I don't know what were the ones shown on the theatrical cut, but my short-term memory tells me I really saw the one where Tun was alone in the photo room then the lights go out(I remember in that scene I really was slightly closing my eyes lol---talk about being chicken)and then the lights were starting to get back, just some blinks of light, then waaaaaaah!!! Natre's face was suddenly on the screen!!!!!!! I think I literally looked like this-----> Thank heavens no one saw my reaction, and of course, I watched it at morning(like now, I'm watching the links because if I clicked your links at nighttime I'll die lol) And I remember too where Natre runs by the car and Natre driving onto the windshield and her crawling in the ceiling. That's the Shutter that comes to my mind, so thanks a million to you, I'm going to get this DVD cut because hadn't you told me, I'd assume that any single copy of Shutter here(as of now, I can't find any copy of it here though) would have those scenes. Dang, I would've missed half of my life.

About Perfect Blue, yeah the trailer looks good! Not to mention the trailer music which is ethereal. The story sounds non-cheesy, which is something I like..Hmmmm.. where can I get it here? You know what Ivan, to be honest, I have a hard time finding movies in my place. That's why I just usually watch movies online. :((( We have limited releases here. Usually just the hollywood ones.lol.

About Asian fiction, I'm glad to find another one who's interested in Asian culture and products such as anime! You don't have to wonder why I like these because I'm Asian myself and frankly speaking, I'm not even THAT well-versed in everything Asian. I still have a long way to go but hey, I'm working it out. I haven't seen a lot of animes but trust that the ones I recommend to you are really best-sellers because I have high standards when it comes to getting my interest at something. Which brings me to Rorouni Kenshin, I think you'll like it too. The story is non-cheesy(its about a legendary swordsman named as Kenshin or Battousai). It has some comedic parts, great amount of action, and inspiring story. Highly recommended. *thumbs-up*

Now European cinema and everything, that's where I'm zero. Honestly, I don't think I've seen any European film in my life. lol don't laugh!

You didn't find that photo-room scene scary? You should've seen my face!!! lol.

I keep hearing this Amelie and Run Lola Run but I really can't find a copy of it. We have Pan's Labyrinth here.. That's not entirely "European cinema" right? or am I about to see my first European film(I'm planning to buy Pan's Labyrinth this week)??

"If you don’t mind me asking – where do you live? Because you should be able to find Perfect Blue and the 2 disk edition of Shutter in most stores."

I live somewhere in the jungles of SouthEast Asia.lol. I just give this answer because I've had my share of internet enemies so you know, just so they won't generalize my country as "Me" and give negative comments.lol. But I could tell you where exactly am I through a PM, if you're curious.

I've heard a lot of people really like Ghost in the Shell, so I might check it out. And a lot of people loves the Vengeance Trilogy...although I prefer Thirst, have you seen that? Its a vampire movie from the same director.

"Still, I think that Perfect Blue is an unappreciated and overlooked masterpiece. Hope you enjoy it, and I’m sure you will."

Yeah, I think so too. The graphics are perfectly fine and the story is interesting. I think on the link of the trailer you gave, they have the full movie on the related videos..*tempted to watch*

And same here, I enjoy watching Asian movies because I can relate to it. You know, I can see myself in the same race as the actors, the places are quite similar to where I live, the simple culture, etc., and I love the language(especially the Mandarin, even if I don't understand what they're saying).

"What are your all-time favourite Asian or Manga movies?"

I have seen a lot of movies but I really have this short-term memory to the point that the ones I can fully remember are just some scenes, around 5 mos. the most, then give me one year, and I can just have vivid memories of the scenes, then years later, all I can remember is the title and then I forget the plot. I watched Up in the Air 2 mos. ago and I have forgotten some parts already. That's why unless I re-watch or read the synopsis on IMDb, I have a hard time giving recommendations. ---->Sorry you have to read that, but here's some recommendations as far as I can remember.(and trust that these are really good for them to have made an impression in my memory lol).

Red Cliff- 10/10. Watched this in the cinema last December and it was really awesome!!!! The one I watched was the condensed version, because its actually a two-movie with around 4 hours long run time. But the one I've seen was the merger of the two parts, it was for 3 hours long and for someone who easily loses interest, for me to just sit there and not notice the time means the movie is really good. Its a war movie.

Have you seen Infernal Affairs? Its the original of The Departed. I also gave this a 10/10. And to be honest, as much as The Departed was very much highly-acclaimed, I think this movie is much much much better.

Those are the movies that people I know could associate me with.

I have this undying love for the JU-ON series(except the Ju-on:The Curse 2). Have you seen The Eye, I think it was scary too..There's also these movies Feng Shui and Sukob from the Philippines, and they're very scary.

And btw Ivan, regarding Rorouni Kenshin..if you can't find the series, you can just watch Samurai X:Trust and Betrayal it basically tells the series in a nutshell only that the series has much more action, with several episodes that have really good stories and humor.

My favorite anime series is Dragon Ball:Z..no one beats my Son Goku.lol. Have you heard of Dragon Ball?

"But I’ve never seen a horror movie that made me cover my face, lol."

Really? Wow, I'm pressured..What do I recommend?? Well I think Ju-on is the scariest movie like me(then again, what with my covering my face and watching horror movies at midday, I'm not really the best person to recommend scary movies heheheheh) so I guess I'll be having a hard time recommending you a movie that will make you cover my face.

"Because Europe...spare a few countries... is very boring...believe me..."

lol. I have high regard for European countries because you're rich! lol. And tha language, I really like to learn one. You're English right? Wow, I'm playing around with my nephew about your accent, and he gives me a big laugh. lol.I've always wanted to do some European tour(but that's far from reality because I don't think I can afford it lol), although I will die and live forever here in my country. No doubt about that. But if anything Ivan, I've talked to a few people from the UK here on IMDb, you included, and I have to say that they're really friendly. If there's any country that I have made conversations with for a long time and has given me positive impressions about their personalities, I think its from the 3 posters I know which are from the UK. :)

Yes Ivan, Red Cliff is if I'm not mistaken, the highest grossing Asian film. But this one I'm sure---> its the most expensive Asian movie of all time. Its directed by John Woo, another director whose movies I like(he's more into action movies).

Here's the trailer for Samurai X:Trust and Betrayal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YnO9O4qsKQ Hope you like it!

"I did see some of the publicity photos of the live action movie for Dragonball Z and even my vague memory of the show knew that it wasn’t faithful and DB-Z fans were gonna be pissed."

You are so correct on that one. I'm a regular of the Dragon Ball:Evo board and that's what I do there..just whine about how I disliked the movie. And the funnier part is when fanboys start posting and their posts are all but cusses..lol!

I tried to listen to a youtube vid about that Verdi Dies Irae and they're similar don't you think? I've been a fan of Gregorian music for around 8 years now..I really really love their music Moment of Peace is a favorite too. Cheers!

"You want to watch a scary movie and have me cover your face? Lol, it’s okay, I’m sure that’s a typo."

Yeah that was a typo. I'm sorry I was floating yesterday..lol. I even wanted to re-read my post because I honestly thought my post was blah but I didn't get the chance to get online again after I replied. Sorry for the typo.

"But I can assure you, not every English person is ‘gentleman.’'

lol Really? Well..in the same way that some Asians aren't that courteous and down-to-Earth either. I've had my share of quarrels with fellow Asians too. As for English people, I don't really know a lot of them, or even the Americans, so I can't really speak with weight but I've had some negative impressions of some of them too by just observing here on IMDb.

Thanks btw for reminding me of Hard Boiled because its on my queue(which has 395475738787347884 still-to-watch movies *dies*) And also Hellsing, I've been wanting to see that.. gaaaaaaaaahhhh, I wonder when will I be able to finish them all. lol.

"Well my taste in music is very diverse. I can listen to classical music like: Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Mozart, etc, and then I can listen to some KMFDM...go figure, lol."

That's great! Shows how you're very open to everything. KMFDM is a.........rock band? lol.

"Nice chatting to you again."

Same here, its great to talk to very nice people like you! Take care. :)

Its been just under a year since I have seen this movie but when I saw it, it scared the **** out of me!

When they are driving real fast, and all of a sudden the ghost shows up on the side of the door...HOLY HELL! I want to watch it again sometime soon. Maybe with my dad who finds all horror movies silly and shrugs off most jump scares. I think this will do a number on him. :P

By the way I'm 23 also and my first big horror movie experience, was the first time I watched the shining. One of my favorite movies now and its what got me into trying to find the greatest horror film I can find. I don't think I have yet to top the shining though in terms of horror films. Its just so well made.
