I don't get the ending

Does anyone care to explain why Natre was on Tun? Was there a deeper meaning behind that apart from her wanting to cause pain on him -- literally? I personally think the position was funny so I wasn't scared at all. Okay maybe I was scared for a second but when it started to sink in I just couldn't help myself but laugh.

reply

well, you see that Natre really loves Tun right?? So she don't likes to be departed to Tun
Like Tun said, "Till death do us part" right?? Natre doesn't like Tun to have girlfriend...

^_^ hope you understand it ^_^

reply

She was sticking to Tun on just 1 simple reason....love turns to hate. And I think the ghost position on Tun's shoulder is really scary. What's so funny about it anyway?

reply

when the door was slapping back and forth you can see the ghost holding him from behind, love then hate and i think back to love..?

reply

Okay, thanks. I think it's really odd and funny in some way. Sure Natre looks scary but she's so stiff and looks like a mannequin, too. I'm also wondering why Tun's neck is hurting. Natre is a ghost and she's not solid in state so why can Tun feel him?

reply

How can Tun feel the gost on his shoulder? Well, there can be some excuses about that thing. If I'm not mistaken, from the book about ghost(I forgot the title, but it seems to be like "Haunted and Haunting"), there are some ways of how ghosts interact with people. There are ghosts which can be seen, ghosts that can make sound, and ghosts that can make physical contact. I think Natre mostly used a picture of herself and touched him at his shoulder for haunting him. Maybe, it will be clear in the film if Tun has some red sign in his neck, which means that something had clearly hurt him on the neck.

The position she was in was shown in the movie when Tun is talking to Jane about the time he had spent with Natre. There's a take where it shows them in some kind of woods and he's walking with her in a position that's alike that one, kinda on his shoulders, with her arms around his neck. I believe that take has something to do with the position she is in in the end. This scene is also shown right after he tells Jane how Natre "loved him a lot". I hope his makes sense anyway...

There was a short flashback where the guy carried the girl on a beach in a.. er.. piggyback? (or what do you call it when you carry someone on your back just for fun)?
So I think when the girl died, she went back to the moment of her life that must have been one of the happiest in her life.. riding piggyback on her boyfriend's shoulders.

Natre on Tun's back was because she is his burden. her being on his back represents the burden on his shoulders from his college days with her. Thta's why he weighed 120 kilos and thats why the monk saw her and thats why Tonn and Tun were walking funny...I think

reply

Its a creepy ending, not funny atall imo.

I know you have not been at the board for like....4 years, but I just saw this and I agree 100%. Excellent, scary movie. Not funny, very very odd to the point of spooky.

Yes, and that's why he has an aching neck and why most of his photos have white strands.**

**SERIOUS SPOILERS BELOW ----

**Those white strands are strands of her hair.

She may be HIS burden, but she doesn't see it this way. She is still very much in love with Tun and is not willing to let go of him. That is my opinion.

¡Viva Felipe Calderón!

i know that you wrote this a year ago, but i just saw this movie. i loved it, i mean LOVED it. you just blew my mind even more about the strands of hair. i just wanted to say thanks.

*beep* it, cut'em up!

Also - just before there a some flashback scenes - one of the magazine editor saying that spirits long for their loved ones - that's waht Natre was doing - sticking to the one she loved, he may have been a **** to her but he was all she ever had.

I agree completely - her sitting on Tuns neck is a symbolism of guilt. Loved this film - thought it was absolutely awesome.

reply

I agree, his neck hurts because he has been carrying a heavy burden all of this time, and in the end we find out that the burden is Natre, literally. And I'm guessing that burden will be there forever unless he confesses his actions.

But it looked like there was two people on his back in the end. I paused on all swings of the door (on the reflection) and see Natre on his shoulders and someone wearing black, looks like a man, on his back. I was wondering if anyone else noticed that. I'll post it in another thread.

Here's my take on this thing; I believe the movie's twist has two meanings:

1.) I've heard from my mom that in some Asian countries, particularly in Korea, that when a girl rides on the back of the guy she's with, she's actually showing affection and that they're expressing their love for one another. (Koreans! Please correct me if we got this wrong!!) If you're an avid fan of Korean or Chinese romantic movies or series you know you've seen this type of scene a lot. "Shutter" also showed a similar scene earlier in the film, right? So I guess it must be Natre's way of showing Tun that she still loves him.

2.) The twist may also symbolize Tun's burden or conscience about the whole situation. His memory of seeing his ex-girlfriend get raped by his friends is something Tun would carry (no pun intended) for the rest of his life. Natre's ghost, I believe, represents that feeling.
