Trailer? Training Day?

Anyone else think the trailer made the movie look kind of like "Training Day?" Like, rap song at the end was sort of similar to the Cypress Hill one in the "Training Day" trailer...the dialogue seemed similar. Cuba seemed to be channeling Denzel. "Training Day" isn't that bad a movie, so I guess this isn't a terrible thing. Just something I noticed.

reply

Yup. The trailer made it look like a 'Training Day' rip-off.

reply

hell yeh.. the hazy L.A barrio look made it nearly exactly like training day..

reply

Whats the song at the end, the sound quality of the trailer is really bad I could hardly hear it in detail.

reply

This movie looks so fake. I can't believe one of the main characters name is Armando "Sancho" LOL

reply

since it's a fictional story with fictional characters, i wouldn't be surprised if it was 'fake'...

Training Day looked alot more realistic. They hit the nail in the head when it came to the LA gang culture. By watching the "Dirty" trailer looks they just made stuff up and kept it very unrealistic. And this movie was obviously influenced by the Rampart scandal just like Training Day was.

Gonna have to wait to watch the movie I guess.

Okay, one last post because it's bugging me: all this Training Day talk, like you can only do one film off Rampart and that's it? I say, bring 'em on. Two three, four, a dozen. I just checked out a Variety review that said this film was better than training day: "... a complex morality drama that overshadows films with similar themes from "Training Day" and "Crash" to "Dark Blue."

And hey Lost Cause: Um, by my count 17 "Sancho"'s in LA phone book. no Armando but one "A." :)

reply

Hey jcz-1

Believe me there are more then 17 "Sancho"s in the LA county. LOL

As for the movie like I said it looks like a Training Day ripoff and I will just have to wait to see the movie.

reply

Did you ever find out the name of the song? Im looking everywhere for it

reply

wtf... when i watched the trailer all I could think was omfg this is training day rip-off

reply

Maybe El Hampa (The Underworld) by Radio Zumbido?

reply

Cuba even howeled like Denzel. You've gotta be kidding me.

I got some bad ideas in my head.

reply

no Joke they even got a song that uses the same chimes as Cypress Hill's "rockstar." This movie looks so bad it isn't even funny.

Trailers are misleading. This is nothing like Training Day, and you can feel it.

' after I'm done with you, you'll be beating guys off with two hands

reply

^I agree. Trailers are very misleading. The only reason why everybody is calling this a Training Day rip-off is because there's nothing else, besides Training Day, to really compare it to. If Training Day never happened, this movie would've been compared to Dark Blue, etc. There is some blame on the person who approved the music for the trailer. Those of us who saw Training Day, know the music, and I totally thought of Training Day because of the music and only the music. This tactic is done all the time. In this case, it was probably done to pull in the Training Day crowd, quietly saying something like 'if you enjoyed Training Day, you will like this' type of thing. A recent example of this is the Ultraviolet trailer, which has music from the Matrix in it. The positioning of the music with the playing action/scene, it couldn't help but remind me of a scene from the Matrix [Reloaded].

After I see the complete movie, then I will be able to say whether or not it's a Training Day rip-off :).

...and nobody barked in Training Day. There was some howling and crowing, but no barking ;).

poor mans "training day" I gave up 1 minute in to the TRAILER!!!!!!

no thanks

reply

Okay what I gotta say is that the comments here split into two groups, those people who are judging the film by the trailer (wotta training day rip-off!) and those who have seen the movie like me, who are tyring to tell you it's a good flick. I mean it seems like some people don't even like movies. don't judge a book by its cover and don't judge a movie by its trailer. again -- there can only be one film off of Rampart? that's like saying there can only be one WWII film or something. it's just stoopid.

reply

i was just pointing out the similarities...but that's the marketing company's fault, not the movies. yeah, i'll still probably see it. it just, from this trailer at least, gives off a huge Training Day vibe.

that's all.
