Anyone else think the trailer made the movie look kind of like "Training Day?" Like, rap song at the end was sort of similar to the Cypress Hill one in the "Training Day" trailer...the dialogue seemed similar. Cuba seemed to be channeling Denzel. "Training Day" isn't that bad a movie, so I guess this isn't a terrible thing. Just something I noticed.
Training Day looked alot more realistic. They hit the nail in the head when it came to the LA gang culture. By watching the "Dirty" trailer looks they just made stuff up and kept it very unrealistic. And this movie was obviously influenced by the Rampart scandal just like Training Day was.
Okay, one last post because it's bugging me: all this Training Day talk, like you can only do one film off Rampart and that's it? I say, bring 'em on. Two three, four, a dozen. I just checked out a Variety review that said this film was better than training day: "... a complex morality drama that overshadows films with similar themes from "Training Day" and "Crash" to "Dark Blue."
And hey Lost Cause: Um, by my count 17 "Sancho"'s in LA phone book. no Armando but one "A." :)
^I agree. Trailers are very misleading. The only reason why everybody is calling this a Training Day rip-off is because there's nothing else, besides Training Day, to really compare it to. If Training Day never happened, this movie would've been compared to Dark Blue, etc. There is some blame on the person who approved the music for the trailer. Those of us who saw Training Day, know the music, and I totally thought of Training Day because of the music and only the music. This tactic is done all the time. In this case, it was probably done to pull in the Training Day crowd, quietly saying something like 'if you enjoyed Training Day, you will like this' type of thing. A recent example of this is the Ultraviolet trailer, which has music from the Matrix in it. The positioning of the music with the playing action/scene, it couldn't help but remind me of a scene from the Matrix [Reloaded].
After I see the complete movie, then I will be able to say whether or not it's a Training Day rip-off :).
...and nobody barked in Training Day. There was some howling and crowing, but no barking ;).
Okay what I gotta say is that the comments here split into two groups, those people who are judging the film by the trailer (wotta training day rip-off!) and those who have seen the movie like me, who are tyring to tell you it's a good flick. I mean it seems like some people don't even like movies. don't judge a book by its cover and don't judge a movie by its trailer. again -- there can only be one film off of Rampart? that's like saying there can only be one WWII film or something. it's just stoopid.
i was just pointing out the similarities...but that's the marketing company's fault, not the movies. yeah, i'll still probably see it. it just, from this trailer at least, gives off a huge Training Day vibe.
