First manga live action adaption I love

After the disappointing GITS adaption where the immersion was really off. Here the Manga world feels alive, vibrant and dangerous! The action was very very good, best Manga style action ever put to film. Compare this to the matrix rip off slowmo action crap from GITS (yay two guns and walking slowmo against a wall.. ) and you see what difference it makes when the people behind the camera know how to do creative choreography. The action was hard hitting, fantastically edited and it kept you surprised throughout.

As a movie: it IS an action adventure all the way. With awesome visuals a very interesting and captivating protagonist and a wonderfully detailed world. Storywise there are a few nice surprises, but overall this was not groundbreaking, but very entertaining nontheless more about the ride. And what a ride it is. Seeing it again next week. I loved it more than the Animé from the nineties, and hope it becomes a succes so that they can continue Alita's adventure.

It's an open ending for sure, but don't let that put you off. The character arc is all there. You will be entertained.

ps: the movie was very violent, just like the source material. Bravo how this got a PG13!

This is perfection in adapting anime to live action. Just stylized enough, the beautiful design/choreography to the action scenes is the strongest influence and it works SO WELL when done like this, but the classic storytelling and coming-of-age sweetness to the drama makes the story so personal and universal.

I'm going to have to check out the original anime too, but part of what made this so moving was how vivid and real it all looked, plus the performances were spot-on and well cast.

Loved the cameo at the end, hopefully it's a good sign that the sequel's casting has already started!

*nods in agreement*

The romance angle did hold it back (while I don’t think it was necessary, it would’ve been better if the execution had been, well, better), but all things considered it was a good adaptation.
