score on rotten tomatoes is now fresh at 60%

Strange trajectory, but interesting. From what I've read everyone agrees on theses aspects:
Alita as a character is awesome, the action scenes are insanely good and the worldbuilding is marvoulous.

Those are for me as a fan of the anime (havent read the manga's) enough reasons to see it on the biggest screen as possible.

Kicked off with a 30-something percent rating and it climbed up to 60%.

Wow.... even if the rating goes down, that is noteworthy! (Rarely has this happened in RT). But regardless of the reviews, this is a movie I’m eager to see.

reply

Yes, I feel the same, I want to see the movie and will probably watch it a few times on the big screen, the online footage alone makes me want to watch it over and over. Just love the design and aesthetics of it all. Big fan of the giant eyes. True Manga style come to life.

I think the film critics are going to be wrong once again. Most of them seem to overlook the entertainment factor all together when predicting these types of films. The average movie fans that have seen the film are giving positive reviews.

reply

And its back again to 60% fresh

reply

Just reading reviews, both good and bad, I think this is going to be a winner.

reply

Me too. Especially the action. And I love to see anime action done right for a change.

reply

In terms of its box office, it is already being reported that it’s expected to lose a lot of money. But aaah... maybe it can still find an audience and exceed some expectations.

At least more positive reviews have been coming out. Cool enough.

reply

Credit when it's due. It's not a complete trainwreck critics wise.

Fresh AT 62% As of now

reply

Nice.

Now I wonder what the audience score will be. I expect it’ll be much better (possibly).

reply

I expect so too, just like with Aquaman.. Now if it would have the same box office as that one..

reply

Wow, I can't remember ever seeing a film debut with such a low score and claw its way up like that. Usually, if anything, it goes the other way: A film will start with a high score and then it will steadily drop until its once-90% score is now more like a 72.

I'm ambivalent about the trailers, but I hope Alita is good. Sadly, it seems like regardless of the score it's probably headed for a massive failure at the box office:

That's a shame for Rodriguez, who hasn't had a big hit in a long time and really needs this to be a success. But I intend to go see it, so they'll at least get MY money.

reply

rotten tomato score is the most retarded score system in the universe, everybody knows that

reply

Yeah, I've seen clearly positive reviews get marked as Rotten. Not sure about mostly-negative reviews getting a Fresh.

reply

It's back down to 59% lol. Fuck James Cameron. Most arrogant prick in Hollywood

reply

Its back to 60% haha its like a friggin swing. But yeah there seems to be a large divide between audience response and critics. I just hope it gets to 500 mil so we can get the sequels

reply

I'm fine with this being successful, I just don't like seeing James Cameron win (although he almost always does). I like Robert Rodriguez, so for him, I hope this movie succeeds

But when Avatar 2 rolls around, hope it underperforms. But betting against Cameron, unfortunately, is kind of futile

reply

Who in their right mind uses ROTTEN TOMATOES?!! Just watch a damn trailer, if you like it, then watch the movie, SIMPLE!
