Christopher Eccleston says Doctor Who return felt like “putting on a pair of old shoes”

Only in an audio drama, but still nice to see C.E. has recovered from his traumatic time on the show and is back in the Who world.

Fingers crossed he'll at least consider the 60th. Not getting my hopes up but would be good. I'd love to see whoever the current doctor is (think it may still be jodie) with Eccleston and mcgann, the least seen doctors

Don't hold your breath. His latest reaction to being asked if he'll appear in another televised episode was something like "when hell freezes over". I'm guessing they might try something different for the 60th anyway, since they already did the multi Doctor thing for the 50th.

I do think we will probably get a multi doctor story simply because it's what generally happens/is expected. Chibnall also seemed to reuse a lot of ideas from across new who in series 12 so a multi doctor 60th wouldn't surprise me.

What I don't want to see but I fear it is a high possibility is simply having jodie and Tennant. I'm not the biggest Tennant fan but I get he's new who's and even the whole shows biggest doctor for many and most would expect/want him to come back.

However I do feel he gets used too much sometimes. It feels like the BBC still sees him as the face of the show and that is why he's playing the biggest part in the timelord victorious. But he's had 3 replacements already and sometimes I feel it would be good to see other doctors getting the same attention.

I could be wrong and Chibnall could surprise us. I just hope we don't get another Zagreus

I’m with you there. Nothing against Tennent as such, but he’s far from my favourite and I wouldn’t mind if he took a step back. Now Matt Smith, on the other hand, he can come back as much as he damn likes!

reply

Yeah he'll totally be up for the 60th.. covids shut down the acting profession for most so any work will be welcome and for actors like Eccelston who swore they'd never return to previous stuff well now they have to if the offers there (he's already shown signs about returning to Who -done the cons, now the big finish , the actual screen is next)

So 60th will be him and Jodie (doubt wed see McGann again).. also maybe a supporting role for Smith, Tennant or Capaldi too (or they could cameo if they ok with that)

reply

See I'd like that just not presuming anything. He did talk to Moffat about the 50th but declined but the fact he discussed it could be promising.

As I've mentioned before I'd love to see him and McGann return, as these two have the least screentime. As he is so popular I think the BBC will use Tennant and I'd rather they didn't because as I said above this post his doctor is everywhere and feels out there more than even the current doctor. I wouldn't blame them though due to his popularity

I just realized... the 60th anniversary IS ONLY TWO YEARS AWAY!!! How cool is that? I'd love to see Christopher Eccleston return for that. Team him up with Capaldi and Jodie.

He was the best since Pertwee.
