TV Guide: Everything We Learned at the Doctor Who Comic-Con 2018 Panel

Less news than I expected. Looks like Chibnall replacing Moffat will change the format and stories.

In addition to a new Doctor, the rest of the season will get a nice refresh. This will be Chibnall's first season as showrunner, as he takes over for longtime showrunner Steven Moffat. As such, Chibnall will add his own flair to the show and says now is the time for new fans to jump onboard as there will be "less old stuff returning, more new treats." In fact, longtime fans shouldn't expect the Daleks or monsters and villains from the past, and many episodes will be standalone stories that will be resolved within the hour.

But in the end, the panel was really about the importance of adding Whittaker and what it means not just for the series, but for the world moving forward.

"For me, the Doctor is pillar of hope, and striving for brightness and inclusion," Whittaker said.

Sounds like Chibnall is trying to bring the 1970s and 1980s feel back to Doctor Who, with self-contained stories and not a season-wide story arc in sight. Which is, after all, what comprised Classic Who back then.

I've been growing tired of the weird storylines in Who lately, especially in the Capaldi era, and damn fucking Clara, etc. But I will see how a female Doctor does, for a change.

Yeahhhhhso, I'm not liking the whole female Doctor thing because (a) it isn't canon and (b)it makes no logical sense since there were (are?) Time Ladies on Gallifrey. I kinda knew they were going to go there when they gender shifted The Master.

Feh.

I've generally liked 12, 11 and the last half of 10so I have a bit of trepidation about what this season is going to look like. I'm all for new Big Baddies (I mean the Weeping Angels still scare the bejeezus out of me) but I'm hoping they don't throw the baby out with the bathwater there is a reason the Daleks and Cybermen are still discomforting. They are characters, who don't reason and hate humans. I'd hate to see them go away in the name of "new shiny".

It will be nice if they do more of the stand alone episodes but I'm hoping that (except for The Doctor's gender) the feel of the show stays about the same.

Doctor Who series 11: all new enemies ahead (Den Geek) [doesn't describe new enemies]

Now Whittaker, along with new showrunner Chris Chibnall, has given The Times a mammoth new interview about series 11, and of course we've picked through it and scooped up all the essential bits for you.
