that we've not heard who's going to play The Doctor next? Otherwise, it'd be all over this board. Well, I was thinking what if we have? What if David Bradley is the new/First Doctor, and we have a season of The Doctor's adventures (maybe before he leaves Gallifrey for good with Susan)?
Kris Marshall had been on the highly-rated program Death in Paradise and he's the favorite - of course, remember all the speculation last time around. Were there any rumors that Peter Capaldi would become The Doctor? WHOmever plays The Doctor next could also be completely unexpected.
Though it'd be cool if they did a series (season) with Bradley as The Doctor, it's probably more likely that Capaldi's Doctor has landed on Mondas, and has encountered the First Doctor on his last adventure, The Tenth Planet*. The First Doctor will impart some wisdom about regeneration and change, making The Doctor more accepting of his fate.
But if they did do a series with Bradley, maybe they could re-film missing episodes like that one, of which the fourth part is lost - though there is footage of Hartnell regenerating into Troughton. And if they did re-do TTP, they could give The Doctor a larger role (as Hartnell was almost too sick to work by then and has a reduced role).
*Very less-likely: Capaldi's Doctor has encountered William Hartnell on the set of Dr. Who playing The Doctor. (Even more less-likely, The Doctor has encountered David Bradley playing William Hartnell playing the Doctor on the set of Dr. Who. Hilarity ensues when Bradley mistakes The Doctor for Peter Capaldi - who finished shooting his last episode the previous week, and yet has turned up "in costume" on the set)
Yes,I used to like the good old days when I was a kid and you really didn't know even when the Doctor was going to regenerate much less who he would change into!
I think Matt Smith was a nice surprise because he was relatively unknown.I'd love to see Benedict Cumberbatch in the role!
I think you may be correct in that he's encountering himself as the First Doctor.
He's too busy with films to do another series of Sherlock (at least immediately, within the next couple of years) so he definitely doesn't have time to take on the role of The Doctor (though maybe he could appear as a guest star - perhaps The Master?)
HaHa! Argh ..brain can't handle it.
I imagine Capaldi dressing like that anyway.
I last saw David Bradley playing dentally challenged Cohen the Barbarian in Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic. He's quite versatile but does grumpy old men quite nicely!
Whomever it is I hope they bring a great feeling to the Doctor, a keen understanding of the character moreso than regarding it as a quirky character role.
I like your thinking regarding the multidimensional confused identity scenario. :)
Since the past couple Doctors seem to be drawing their inspiration from earlier incarnations - Matt Smith and Patrick Troughton; Capaldi and (arguably) Pertwee (at least in how he dressed initially reminded me of Pertwee); and now we've had an appearance by the First Doctor - perhaps the new Doctor might find qualities or mannerisms similar to Tom Baker? (foreshadowing: the "Would you like a Jellybaby?" line?)
