Can someone remind me about the vault

It's been so long since last series, I can't remember what happened last. I can't remember a promise to stay on Earth or who that promise was to. I can't remember a vault, let alone what's in it. I can't remember why Nardole is there or what he's supposed to be doing. (I happen to like him btw, not sure why there is some vitriol against him. I'd rather him be the companion.) And certainly can't remember, if we were even told, why the Doctor is at the university lecturing.

Or are all of these things supposed to be story questions we're supposed to have?

I think they're "to be explained"; I don't remember any of them coming up before.

I dunno. The Doctor was pretty chummy with whoever's in there, offering a meal. Maybe the vault isn't to keep whoever's in there IN, but anyone else OUT. ?

This show has no surprises left. They're just recycling the same material and same lines over and over. It's so formulaic it would be oppressive to write for this show.
