He wanted to use his enormous wealth ot "get into" upper class society but never managed it, and he tried to use Dodi's romance with Diana ot make himlsef more acceptable, by having his son marrying the future Kings Mother. But it did not work and he is unhappy and bitter so he says outrageous things....
