Blair + Thatcher

I have heard that the both of them were Pro-Americans, are they being brainwashed by idiotic Bush and Reagan respectively?

No they were pro American's in completely different ways and the perception comes down to what your political beliefs are. As you have two British leaders who were in opposing parties both trying to forge alliances with republican leaders in the US.

Thatcher was 'pro Regan' more than pro American. She wasn't against the US at all - far from it, but ultimately Thatcher was motivated by what a close relationship with Regan would yield Britain. Her political motives for this were varied and nobody would truly know what they were. She came into power 24 months before Regan did in the US and left a year after he finished office. So much of Thatcher's alliance with Regan was also due to the fact they shared the same office time. More than anything, Thatcher was very bewitched by Regan (and he her). Thatcher elavated herself to a ranking (globally)that put her on a par with the Queen. As the first female Prime Minister she was given certain liberties the male leaders never got (and still don't). One of them was being treated with all the grandaur of royality. Therefore, Thatcher loved the sheer theatricals of Regans world. If you watch any footage of her either with him or encountering him, she's playing right up to the whole 'Dynasty' era and sweeping into rooms in glittery gowns and allowing people to stand on ceremony for her. The Queen disliked Thatcher a huge amount, but it was never really gathered she disliked her for the way she was running the country. What The Queen was ucomfortable with is Thatcher's self styled ucerp of her 'head of state' position. Regan really allowed Thatcher a platform to do this. However, Thatcher was always motivated by Britain and now she is dead, its evident she didn't leave the country after her power and seek opportunity elsewhere. She stayed here and remained close to the conservative party.

Tony Blair is a different beast altogether. Blair's motives were entirely self fullfilling. He used politics like a stepping stone to get to wherever he wanted to be - which was he US. As a young man he had wanted to be a rock star, when he discovered this wasn't going to happen he sought fame in politics. He is like the 'Roxie Hart' of politics. Watch the trailer for 'Chicago' on You Tube. "Velma (George Bush) has it and Roxie (Blair) wants it". As Blair watched Bush talk to the world (after September 11th) you could literally see him looking at him star struck and mentally replacing Bush with himself and gaining that level of global exposure. Blair and his wife are money mad and he knew the big money would be found by attempting to form a close relationship with Bush. Thatcher (for example) never buckled under pressure from the US, she would do what she wanted to do - whether Britain liked it or not. However, Blair would buckle at every turn to Bush's whims - knowing his payout would be great. Sure enough, the day came where he literally dumped the UK (whilst still in power) and fled off to the US.

So to answer your question, Thatcher and Blair were pro American's in different ways. Thatcher was ultimately 'pro Regan' and Blair was ultimately 'pro the US' and the financial power it would yield him when he left office.
