THis movie sucks!! its so boring, the joke is'nt even funny, they're all just trying to out do each other with who can say the F word the most, or come up with the sickest incestious scenario!!!
Only good US comedies I have ever seen...Bits of Frasier/MASH/Steve Martin when he was funny/Chris Rock seems ok but only seen clips/Simpsons for a good few years was Brilliant/2 episodes of Seinfield/ about a third of Curb Your Enthusiasm/quite a bit of Larry Sanders/Bits of Letterman and Leno/ Emo Phillips in the 80's...Uk comedy is much better for me anyway.
Yeah, British comedy is at its all time peak! Wow in the last few years we have had the side-splitting antics of Catherine Tate. Ardal O'Hanlon in the rip-snorting laff-a-thon "My Hero", Who'd have thought that an all time classic comedy was going to be born when Boycey and Marlene decided to leave Peckham behind for their spin off series. I cant wait for the box sets of "My Family" and "Titty Bang Bang" to come out.
There are a a good few funny american movies, but imo as far as sitcoms go, they're so predictable, altho, i did used to like Joey in friends a few yrs ago but thats about it !!!
The brit comedy highlights for me lately have been, The Office, and the genius Extras series!! ... An awesomely funny one to watch also, is the DVD of 'world shut your mouth' with Dom Joly, that is Hysterically funny, brit-com at its best !!!
Agreed with your comment about the Aristocrats being poor, because it was. 90 mins of listening to various comedians (many British amongst them) telling a truly awful bad taste unfunny joke is not my cup of tea, but you cant say that that all US comedy is as bad as this.
Yes, the Office and Extras have been highlights in a terrible era for British comedy, Id be hard pushed to think of any other standouts in the last few years.
True, there are hundreds of awful US comedies but on the other hand they have given us many great ones over the years, Cheers, Seinfeld, Frasier, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Simpsons and My Name is Earl to name but a few.
I don't watch a lot of British comedy, so I'm not going to make a generalization saying it's bad, or saying it's good. But the British definitely seem to be much more subtle with their humor. American comedy, in general, seems to take a much more goofy route. Aside from it being too goofy, is this belief that anything dirty is funny. The problem with criticizing a movie of this sort is that people automatically think you're a prude because you didn't find it funny. I'm an Andrew Dice Clay fan, there's no way I can be accused of being a prude! I just don't think that simply telling a story of some incestuous family defecating on each other and ejaculating on each other and screwing each other is funny. I can see why someone from another country would have that opinion of our comedy from watching this movie, and I don't blame him in the least. Many of the comedians featured in the film are actually very funny people who I admire, but watching them in this movie didn't make me laugh one bit.
What Americans deem funny or what the British deem funny is completely different. It's like apples and oranges. Some Americans don’t find British comedy to be very funny and vice versa. American comedy pertains to American society, so Brits might not get it and again vice versa. I know when I watch British comedy I sometimes wonder what the hell they’re talking about.
Mersey69, I haven't seen any of those shows but your post is hilarious.
The OP implies that humor in the US is bad from top to bottom. If he's speaking of US sitcoms I agree completely. However, if the reference is to all US comendy then the OP is off his *beep* rocker. I've seen some British comedy that is real *beep* Does that mean it all sucks? Hardly.

To be fair, it is a reflection of most of english speaking stand up, not just American, but you are correct. That people like this film is astounding. Have we turned into a nation of 5th grade perverts?
Yeah all those American comedians like Eric Idle, Eddie Izzard and Billy Connolly who appear in the film. (That's called sarcasm if you didn't get that joke either) And the thought of a dozen or so Canadian comedians appearing in the film probably just set you over the edge.
And yes, all they were doing was trying to out-do each other. THAT IS the joke. I guess you just don't get it.
It's not so much you hate American comedy, is it? Could it just be that American comedy, well, just isn't too fond of you?
I don't suppose you were offended on the chance you might be an aristocrat?
Why do people point to American sitcoms as the epicenter of our humor? Sitcoms should be the last place you look as they are mandated by the FCC. They don't have anything to do with the writing process or anything but they make sure to keep the FCC off their backs. Seinfeld's pretty good, but kind of dated. The whole point of sitcoms is basically to give you a cheap chuckle.
Then you go to something like Comedy Central which is kind of hit and miss. I used to like South Park but then it became really popular to like South Park and then people started liking South Park for the wrong reasons. Like if they told a Michael Jackson joke about how he lit his hair on fire because of Jheri Curl. Most would be laughing at just the name Michael Jackson.
By the way anybody who likes to generalize an entire country (especially a country the size of the U.S.) is obviously quite dim.
The only British comedies, besides the occasional Brit Comedy on television, I've seen have been from the 80s. Kind of Mr. Bean type stuff that was real slapstick stuff. From what I saw I didn't like it. Then Brit stand up is usually done in an accent that I kind of miss the punchline and seems to be 20 years behind the American stuff, but once again it's only been short samples.
Well said. Even more absurd is that this documentary focuses on our stand up comedians -- and an inside joke of their trade, to boot -- yet the OP promptly changes the subject to sitcoms.
'Scuse me? Are you thick?
First off, this is not a war. Greats hail from both sides of the pond. But you can suck and **** your family on a stage if you're going to ignore the pantheon of US comedy giants. They need no defense from anonymous IMDB users.
Have you seen a British sitcom on PBS or BBC America lately? I'd hate to have to justify the likes of Monty Python based on the crap I've seen from Britain on PBS. Still, this pathetic movie does make Americans look particularly bad. I agree, there are many greats on both sides of the pond, but this movie does make us look bad, not that we all are.
