This movie ruined the joke!

It's one thing if you had already heard the joke. Maybe then you didn't realize how poorly they presented the joke. But, if you were hearing it for the first time, it was a huge disappointment. The first telling of the punchline was so anti-climactic and unfunny. They really missed an opportunity to make a better impression with the first telling of the joke. In the nature of the joke itself, they should have built up the anticipation much more. They could have even done a mash-up of different comedians interjecting a few words into a detailed and involved story, all leading up to a more satisfying punchline.

Instead, they started the joke in such a horrible manner that all we're left with is the regret of thinking how the joke COULD have been so much better. Unfortunately, nothing replaces a first impression when it comes to a joke.

I usually hate when people say what I am about to say to you, but it is apt - you dont get the film

the joke sucks, its not a good joke. The joke has a standard set up and a standard punch line. The punch line isnt all that exceptional, lets face it. The vast middle of the joke is free style, any person can fill the middle with what they wish and therein lies the humor of it and the film. The various ways it is told, the extremely over the top vulgarity which just builds and builds until even a nun would stop blushing is the point of it. Sorry you didnt get it

You know the reason why you probably don't like it when people say "you didn't get it"? That's because it is an ignorant, non-argument comment that people just say when they are unable to articulate an actual point. Congratulations! You stooped to that level.

Your argument seems to be:
1)It's a bad joke.
2)It's more about the build-up than the punch line
3)Each telling of the joke is different

These are valid points that I wasn't disputing (nor misunderstanding). Unfortunately, you "didn't get" that they are irrelevant to my point.

My simple point revolves around the experience of hearing a joke for the first time. This is a unique experience that can never be recaptured. It's an experience that is important to any joke, even this one. This joke enjoys a longer life than most jokes. It can be told and retold so many different ways and enjoyed repeatedly by performer and audience alike. The jokes longevity may lessen the significance of the "first telling" experience, but this experience is important nonetheless. It's at least important enough to be considered more significantly by a movie that revolves around this SINGLE joke.
