The Orphan movie that came out about a year ago. Esther and David were really similar to me. You know the fight scene at the end of both movies between the children and the adults? I know the Esther wasn't really a child but posing as one. They were both evil and orphans. Even though David was something more sinister and Esther was just crazy. I just wonder if someone else got this same comparison.

I'll tell you what it really reminds me of, the short story Ransom of Red Chief by O'Henry. It is about 2 kidnappers who take the son of a well to do family. The boy is so bad that they have to pay the parents to take him back. I think this movie was a play on that but took it up a notch. Ransom is really about two really bad criminals that have something on their hands that are way to much for them to handle. Even though it is funny it has serious underpinnings. I believe this movie is what O'Henry was really writing about when he wrote this story.
shareThe snowy forest setting, and the fight at the end, certainly reminded me of Orphan. Of course, Whisper is the older movie. I have an O. Henry collection with no less than 100 stories but no RoRC. Too bad, I really want to read it now!

I know this post is old, but I am responding because I was glad to see that someone else saw the same resemblance that I did to The Ransom of Red Chief. The story line was very similar: kidnappers who take a boy who in turn makes their lives so miserable they request that the parents take him back. The parents reply that they will agree to take the boy back if the kidnappers pay them 200 dollars. A movie was made of the short story and it was hilarious I have only seen a little of this one which of course is a horror movie, but I also think that the producers of this film did take part of their inspiration from The Ransom of Red Chief.
I think it reminds me a little like the Omen.
