Well the directors previous film,Waterboys is pretty good too-similar story, only this time round it's a bunch of schoolboys having to learn synchronised swimming :)
Juri Ueno from Swing Girls is also in a really good film called Josee, the tiger and the fish. It's not really a full on comedy but it's sweet and funny.Might be hard to find though-I got a Korean DVD which has english subtitles.
Hope that helps!
hey thanks tokyomonkey you helped me out a lot1!!!!! at least someone replys on this board lol
shareShiraishi and Ueno appear in Orange days along side Shibasaki Kou, Eita, Nariyama Hiroki, and Satoshi Tsumabuki. Ueno is only in it for maybe 15 minutes throughout the entire thing, but Shirashi is one of the leads. Shiraishi is also in Densha otoko(train man), for the first time she doesn't play the sweet girl next door and it works really well for her. Shihori Kanjiya is in Survive Style 5+,H2~Kimi to itahibi, and Dekabeya. Yuta Hiroaka will be in the upcoming Nana. Ueno is the lead(or is one of the main charecters) in Kame wa igai to hayaku oyogu, the upcoming Warau Mikaeru, she is also in Engine with Kimura Takuya and Koyuki.
sharePMFJI. I just got the 'Engine' DVD box set and am dying to see how Ueno does in this drama.
shareshe's pretty amazing in it.
shareFinished 'Engine' today. At the risk of getting basked up by Kimura fans I think Ueno has more acting in her than the hero of this drama. Ueno has completely transformed herself from a feisty school girl in 'Swing Girls' into an insecure-cum-rebellious "orphan" here in 'Engine'. All I can say is I'm looking forward to her latest movie 'Summer Time Machine Blues', as well as a new 'Kandaichi Files' TV series (I think).
shareI watched "Shall We Dance" (Japanese version) and found 3 of SG's cast in it: Takanaka Naoto (math teacher), Watanabe Eriko (Tomoko's mother), and Tokui Masaru (karaoke owner/employee). I'll now try to get hold of the "Waterboys" and see which of the SG casts appeared in that one too.
shareIn the genre of Japanese highschool movie, I like "Ganbatte Ikimasshoi" a lot: (http://www.geocities.com/seriallain/Ganbatte/) The first movie the now popular Rena Tanaka ever did.
shareHey all. . well seeing as the 'Linda Linda Linda' board is practically non-existent! I must post on here that if you like Swing Girls as much as I do then check out Linda Linda Linda!!
Saw it again recentley with my girlfriend and I have fallen in love with this movie just as much as Swing Girls, and you all know that's a hard film to measure up to! :))
It's not available this part of the world yet (Hong Kong/China) but I've seen the trailer and it looks interesting. I've seen a couple of films feathering Bae Doo-Na and she's good. Looking forward to seeing the whole film.
shareBae Doo-Na is a great actress. . they have made her look very dorky and weird looking in 'Linda Linda Linda' (probably to make her look more like an akward teenager!) I thought she was amazingly sexy in 'Sympathy For Mr Vengeance' :P
If the truth be told she is the best thing about 'Linda Linda Linda' (getting tired of writing that 3 times! hehe) she easily outshines the japanese actress's in this movie and I think her performance is at the heart of why this movie is quite refreshing from all the other band-movies coming out in recent years!
Will definatley pick up the DVD when it comes out. :)
Rock-n-Roll isn't really my cup of tea, but I'm looking forward to seeing this film solely because of Bae Doo-Na. I'm still trying to get hold of "Waterboys" - after "Swing Girls" I think it would be 'safe' to see other Yamaguchi's works.
shareI haven't seen Swing Girls yet, but i Love Waterboys. I have never laughed so hard, and i really cared for the characters. I really want to see Swing Girls now. All of my japanese friends love it, and there was a really cool preview in the Waterboys DVD
These 2 films should be required viewing for all fans of japanese comedy
. . you forgot to mention 'Himitsu no hanazono', which personally, I think is his funniest laugh-out-loud movie he has made so far. . 'Water Boys' and 'Swing Girls' have a more appealing premise and feel-good factor to them though! :)
shareIt's the other way round for - I'm still trying to get hold of the "Waterboys" DVD. I know both are very funny but I have a feeling "Swing Girls" works better for me. After all I'm male and a whole bunch of young girls in Sailor Moon attire blowing their hearts out on musical instruments is a more tempting picture!!
