shareThe Johnson government was forced into the position of another lockdown because the surging COVID-19 cases threatened to overwhelm the NHS. Johnson, like the similar Trump, had promised there would be no new lockdown but was forced into it by dint of circumstances. We may indeed be living under a "police state" but it's not for the reason you mention, unless you're one of those who believes the coronavirus is a hoax. Some people won't believe the coronavirus threat is real until people they know start coming down with it or start dying from it, or contract it themselves.
