what thing did Finch put on the desk every time before talking?

As said in the subject, every time before Finch starts a conversation with Dominic, he puts a thing, kinda like a portable lamp or a sound recorder, on his desk, it blinks with red light, anyone know what that is? Thanks!

Another question, when Finch talks to DOminic, one time when he says: I can see what will probably happen...and then a series of shots flash through, one of which was a shot that shows Evey with long hair taking care of roses while Finch sits on the chair sipping tea, this is extremely strange, does it mean they will end up together? Perhaps even get married to each other?

That particular shot, with its specific content, was probably the only shot that wasn't mentioned later in the film, in other words it didn't become true in the course of the film, it's something that we as views, can play with.

I think he assumes his desk is bugged and that thing acts as some sort of jammer.

reply

Ok, really?!?! There was absolutely NO indication of that.

Its something to make the government cant spying or hear thire conversations .. got it?

in one scene towards the end of the film Dascomb walks into the office and indicates that he needs to speak in private and the first thing Finch does is turn on the device. though it was obvious what the device was for long before that.

Perhaps only to one who cannot interpret a menu without the waiter at his side.

reply

Yes there is.

In a later scene, one of the detectives (I forget his name) enters the office of the other and starts to pull out his jamming device only to be told "it's not necessary".

reply

It's been a long time since I watched this but to me it made more sense that it was a device he used to record conversations. I mean if you were paranoid about being bugged, would you just take someones word that the "jamming" device wasn't necessary? I wouldn't.

reply

It's obviously a jammer.
Plus if he didn't want to get his question out of the office, why would he bother to record it?

reply

In the film it is a jammer, But in reality its actually a book light with a red filter, I know because I own one haha

reply

dont ya love those moments where you see something you own in a tv show/movie and yet, the character is not using it with the object's original purpose in mind.

A large income is the best recipe for happiness I ever heard of.

I think it was a recording device.

When V, disguised as Rockwood, talked to Finch at the memorial, he pulled out an exactly similar device.

Then when he was done telling Finch the story about Sutler and the Party, he said "If you want this recording you'll do exactly what I tell you to".
