The Islamic suck-up of V For Vendetta

"The Corane" ...

It is mentioned here and there in V For Vendetta, always implying that the banning of this book is the ultimate and/or most iconic act of ignorence from the fascists. A symbol for the evil intolerance created by the white, christian man.

Why not let the villains bann buddhism, hindue, voodoo or whatever? No, that wouldn't be too soft. This was 2005, so to stirr up some debate, they just HAD to take the Corane as the religious victim ...

It's too bad. that a movie such as good and unique as "V", just couldn't resist to squeeze in a pro-muslim-message, tryig to state that "We're hip, we got b*lls, we're ahead of our time, threading new paths, as we did with The Matrix".

I sincerly hope, that the Wachowski Bros, are aware that The Corane got VERY "modified" when translated to other languages, conviently leaving out explicit parts with messages, tails and ideas that, well, wouldn't be accepted by the western wourld in any shape, way or form, regardless of nation or religion.

Again, "V" is great. It brings a pefect blend of entertainment, quality, and message. EXCEPT för that whole "We gotta suck up to the muslim-world!"

No, I'm not from the US, no, I'm not christian, no, I don't hate muslims, I wish for Islam to have the exact same right to exist as any other religion. But just stop using Islam as a flag for "We're sooo tolerant!". It doesn't achieve anything. It's just helps the violence to linger.

On a similar note, they mention that the Chancellor was a "religious zealot" or something like that... So was he the evil Christian waging war against peaceful Islam?

didn't dubya bush declare a Crusade against iraq and killed tenths of thousands of innocent civilians because god told him to!!

Lol reminds me of a historical figure who's name ended in tler, big on black, order and repurposing historic symbols, believed in muscular christianity and banning over related religions and imprisoning it's adherents.

What was his name again?

Or, it just made no sense to have a British dictatorship use any other religion than Christianity. No doubt if they'd used Islam, then you'd have gone on a similar rant about Islamic propaganda...

I think you're reading to much into it.

As the Britain of the film is a Fascist Christian state (in reality it isn't a Christian country and never will be again thank *beep*) it makes sense that Islam is illegal. The movie is no more pro-Islamic propaganda than it is pro-homosexual propaganda. The Qu'ran is featured because in the real world it would be a unique thing of beauty (and probable considerable monetary value too) that has been banned for no good reason. It is simply used as an example of how fascist ideology is used to suppress ideas and beliefs.

Clearly you have very little knowledge about contemporary British politics... Far-right political groups today in Britain, and much of the EU for that matter, view Islam as the ultimate "enemy"... If they could ban Islam, or anything associated with it (be it Qurans, Hijabs, Minarets, or what not), they wouldn't hesitate to do so the first opportunity they get.

V For Vendetta is being realistic. It doesn't make sense to ban Hinduism, or Buddhism, or Judaism, since those are not the targets of right-wing hatred in the present day (though they certainly were in the past, and may well again be in the future). Islam is not portrayed as a "victim", but the movie is realistically portraying what a far-right political group (like the BNP or EDL, before the latter even existed) would do if they ever came to power.

If you really want to know what really is a "suck-up" for Islam (which this movie is not), then go watch Lawrence of Arabia, or go read Dune... Now those are stories I would calling "sucking-up" to Islam, and yet they're still popular despite that.

"WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM???!!!!!"

Where would be the financial upside in banning Islam? I mean not just pissing off oil states, think of the cost of the police action etc. Islam as the boogeymen can serve as a distraction from real issues in politics, but banning religion is neither popular nor financially beneficial.

if you pay close attention to the movie in many parts they claim that the USA is at war a civil war brought about by Christians VS Muslims and the Muslims have spread diseases and killed off a lot of people... they used the Muslims as an excuse to spread the disease that killed everyone in the movie basically framing Muslims because of the things they did in the USA. In turn they banned all Muslims after executing the "guilty" ones that caused over 100k deaths in England. They implied that the Middle East was already bombed back to the stone age so getting resources from there was impossible. Lack of resources is another way of control as the people would have to rely on the government to get what they needed.

corane? whatsthat? you ment the quran?

reply

all of this and in the end you say nothing, you're as gay and crappy as the movie.

reply

2 seconds on Google would've informed you that it's the "Quran" not "corane" or whatever the eff that is. Your whole argument is nullified because you're not even informed about the thing you're criticizing.

I thought the slight changes from the graphic novel in order to make it line up with more contemporary issues was pretty annoying.
