In this slick but convoluted gangster flick, only two women appear: one as a one-minute walk-on by a giggly 'tootsie' very early on, and the second a four-minute appearance 70 minutes later.
Hong Kong filmmakers, reflecting the male-dominated culture itself, are notoriously patriarchal. It's rare to see a good part in HK films for female actors. There doesn't seem to be any requirement that women have at least SOME substantial place in HK films. I know it's not entirely true, but I often get the impression that Hong Kong ONLY produces gangster flicks or hell-fire, riddled-body-a-minute, shoot-em-up flicks with almost exclusive male casts and only token females, if, in fact, there are any females at all.
