What year is the game set in?

What year is the game specifically set in? Many claim it's 1957, but I'm having doubts, particularly because the movie playing at the drive-in and also viewable as a bonus feature is "Plan 9 From Outer Space", released in '59. Also, scanning some of the cowboys at Turnipseed Farm and Rockwell results in some comments about a certain talking horse. I can only assume it's Mr. Ed, but "Mr. Ed" did not air until 1961. Also, the day the county fair is on Sunday, June 24th, which was in 1956. So it seems like the years are bouncing all over the place here! Ay-yi-yi-yi! Can you tell me what year is the game set in?

Witht the help of Furon techology time is no longer obstacle.

Ever wonder why you can replay a misson from the start after the present Crptospiridium gets killed.

Ever wonder why buildings, people that you have destroyed previously immediately return in the next mission.

I think Orthopox charges up the Flux-capacitor on the mothership evrrytime this happens.
