Vanessa's giggling

The girl's reaction to EVERYTHING was to giggle.

Have a conversation with someone? Giggle.

Get asked out on a date? Giggle.

Have your predators banish you to another lunch table? Giggle.

Was it bad acting? A nervous tick on the character's part but overdone? I don't think Alexa Vega did a bad job overall but the giggling was excessive and poorly delivered.

RIP, 2011 Phillies. Thanks for another great season. Let's get 'em next year!

Usually her friends were saying something funny, and she was nervous and happy when she was asked out (and flirty). She only did it once when she was nervous after her friends told her to go away, because she didn't know what to think, whether they were kidding or not.

She only did it once? Were you watching the same movie? The entire first hour of the movie, all she did was nervously giggle, over everything.

I agree, the giggling was annoying! Another thing that really distracted me was how dark the school was in every scene. I guess it was supposed to add to the mood or something, but real schools are brightly lit and this one was always dark and shadowy, totally unrealistic.

I definitely noticed that too, and it got annoying after a while, but that's actually a pretty common problem for some people, especially teenagers. It is kind of like a nervous habit, as the OP mentioned. If you feel awkward or out of place, or you simply don't know what to say, you give a little giggle to fill that silence. I actually do that sometimes--not as frequently as Vanessa, but I understand a little bit where it can come from.
