I have nothing against black people, but I wonder why they chose a biracial woman to play Vanessa's mother? It just doesn't make sense. She looked more like Emily than she did Vanessa.

shareLatinos can have a variety of skin and hair colours, but the most common one seen in the media is light brown skin and dark hair. Both Alexa Vega and Lisa Vidal have Latin heritage. Also we never see Vanessa's father, so it's possible he could be white or at least lighter skinned to explain Vanessa's complexion.
