question about Vanessa's mom's nationality
Is vanessa's mom hispanic? she didn't look like she could be vanessa mom, i mean Vanessa is white but her mom looked like she was black or hispanic. maybe Vanessa is adopted?

share Haha I don't think they were taking the difference in physical looks into account when they made this movie. I'm pretty sure she's not supposed to be adopted.
On the imdb page of the actress who play's the mom, it says she's 100% Puerto Rican. But on the imdb page of Vanessa, it say's she's half Colombian. Maybe they're both supposed to be Latina in the movie? Eh, I don't know.

Why does this matter?
The bullying had nothing to do with the ethnicity of the characters. Hispanics can be people of any race and who is to say that Vanessa doesn't look more like her father?
The Fabio Principle: Puffy shirts look best on men who look even better without them.
who is to say that Vanessa doesn't look more like her father?
your right. :)
Because people are interested in knowing people's backgrounds. No, it's not that important, but if a child and their parent look as though they might be from two very different ethnicities, it can sometimes take you out of the story. (An example of this for me is the '80s movie Something About Amelia where the parents both had blonde hair and pale skin, and the daughters both had dark hair, dark eyes and olive complections. It really distracted me, although the movie is terrific, because two fair-haired, fair-skinned parents will not have children who look like that, due to recessive genes.)
But there's nothing wrong with asking about it. I don't get why people get so offended when someone even brings up something like this--there is nothing wrong with asking about it. The OP poster isn't casting any slurs upon anyone, s/he's seeking clarification.
I should say, I didn't find it distracting in this movie at all, because 1) they didn't look that different, 2) we never saw the father, and 3) since the actress who plays Vanessa has the surname Vega, we know she's Latina. And as you say, Latinos are of many different races--it's an ethnicity, not a genetic/racial thing.
Why does this matter?
they both definitely look hispanic to me. NOT BLACK. fully black people dont usually look like that -_____- and maybe they didnt look alike. all i could see is that they both have thick hair. BUT alexa vega is NOT white. there can be light skinned hispanics just so you know -_-
shareHispanics vary in physical features. In some Hispanic families some members of a family may be very dark skinned while others are light skinned. My mother is very light skinned by my father is dark, one of my brothers had my my mother's skin tone while the other brother has my father's skin tone and my skin is a little bit darker than my mother's.
shareThat's an ignorant question.
Latinos come in every skin tone.
I live in Spain and most people here have white skin
I hear Argentina is the same.
My family is from Nicaragua.
My mom, dad, and sis are the same skin tone as Vanessa's mom.
I'm the same tone as Vanessa.
My brother is in the middle.
I'm not adopted.
Both my half sisters are white and one is married to an african american and the other is married to a guy from Kenya (not white) their kids do not look white due to the fathers of their kids , there's your answer. The dad could been white and the mom not in Vanessa's case. BTW, in real life the girl who plays Vanessa is from Hispanic heritage. Like I said both my half sisters are pure white but their husbands are black so their kids look black and look nothing like their white moms
shareTo claim purity you'd have to know & have proof of every ancestors
lil black book & or indiscretions. So that's ignorant, but the OP
has every right if they don't know...to ask.

Most retarded thing i ever heard. My mom is scottish canadian and my father is puertorican. My skin is pale and i have hazel eyes. When me and my dad use to go out to eat they thought i was his wife because we look nothing the same andim really wjite compared to him. Some people just look more like 1 parent.
