Am I the only one here who is dissapointed that she falls for the guy now because he is now slim?!?
This movie is sending a bad message. I didn't expect much to be honest but I hoped it wouldn't be as shallow.
Jamie should have had feelings for him in the past not now that he is hot... That is just wrong..
Sending the wrong message to who? It's a movie not a PSA.

I totally get your feeling of disappointment because though I really enjoy the movie I feel like if he had returned all those years later and was still obese she probably would have still just seen him as a friend, but we'll never know because he came back in great physical shape.
And knowing that she had told him back then that what he wrote in her yearbook was one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to her and then when he tries to kiss her after she says this she then says she sees him more like a brother. ??? It's like did she read--or rather hear all that he wrote when her mean boyfriend read it out loud to everyone? He doesn't want just friendship or familial bonding! He wants more!
However, we do know that she doesn't like fit, attractive guys who are jerks in her later years. So I guess she has grown somewhat. Because she was ready to be done with Reynold's character and missed how he was when he was her fat friend--personality-wise, and she was still not even into the "nice guy" that Dusty was.
As people we all like what we like and like who we like. Some people can see past the fat long enough to still want to be with the person romantically.
So in her defense, I don't think we should be too hard on her because based on the rich jerk he became because she broke his heart if she had gotten extremely fat he probably would have thought karma is a bitch and that he dodged a bullet-- a fat bullet and then just went back on the plane with Samantha. I think it helped that she was STILL his fantasy girl in appearance.
That might have been an interesting storyline-- though a bit recycled. Him spending time with her now that she is fat and seeing that she is still wonderful to hang out with even if he doesn't find her as physically attractive. Then she can now truly understand how she made him feel--now that she's fat and he could also see it from her perspective since he is rather shallow at this point.
