Be Afraid?

The thing that made the Cold War an easier fight than the one we face now is that it seemed fairly easy for people to be terrified of Communism and the there was an expectation that a conventional war between the USA & USSR could happen at any moment and be prepared for until the Berlin Wall fell.
The problem has been that it is much harder to convey this bone chilling fear when it comes terrorism because it has no visible identity and therefore makes it easy for complacency to set in.
It's so much easier to warn people about air raids and nuclear strikes through terrifying ads but how do you convey the dangers of an enemy you can't see?

Are you serious?

Do you remember what happened on September 11, 2001? That had a lot more "visible identity" than anything that occurred during the Cold War.

Typically with 9/11 as with everything we get truthers and conspiracy theorists. We're so in love with that garbage so when something goes horribly wrong we get jingoism and fear ingesting instead of real accountability.
