What the 'ell happened to 'lawtarantino'?
It seems all of his cogent comments have disappeared from these threads.

Sometimes the administrative Folks at IMDb get a bit carried away and expunge that which should not be expunged. It's happened to me (not everything--just a few selected posts) for reasons that I've never understood. I was once debating this guy about the, in my view, awful film "Ken Park" which I thought was pornographic. In defense of this position, I wrote a lengthy piece where I quoted legal opinions, and definitions of terms from legal and regular dictionaries. I never once used foul language, nor was I disrespectful of the individual I was debating. Nonetheless, one day it was all gone. I asked about it, but never got a reply. A few others on the same thread were using colloquialisms for some of the acts disaplayed in the film that are considered vulgar and were rude to boot, yet their posts stood unscathed. So there really doesn't seem to be much consistency in their purges. I once suggested to "lawtarantino" that he might be a bit too combative, and that he might sway more people if he toned it down a bit--but he said he was "too old" to change his spots. Still, his comments were not out of line with what many others engage in--PLUS, his ruminations evidenced clear reasoning and were filled with useful information (something often lacking in many threads). So, I fail to see the justification for purging his entire oeuvre (assuming he didn't actually go off the deep end in a post I didn't catch, but I never noted such inclinations). His insights here will be sorely missed--at least by those who apprehend the the true nature of "Tail-Gunner Joe."
I hope nothing actually happened to him.
Cheerio!
PS to lawtarantino if he reads this: If you WERE purged, I recommend reincarnation to carry on the worthy fight.

Worthy fight?
Lawtarantino was extremely naive about McCarthy, despite his age, and seemed to enjoy running his mouth off about it. He routinely ignored my posts and arguments and claimed to have an uncle who was victimized by McCarthy, yet he would not tell us the uncle's name or when he was called before McCarthy's subcommittee.
On the one hand, I'm glad he's gone, but on the other, it was very nice to have someone using the wrong McCarthy narrative to correct.
My recollection was that the naiveté resided entirely on those on the other side of the argument. And I don't think he ever dodged an argument made by one of his adversaries. If anything, he was obsessively committed to debunking any pro-McCarthy arguments proffered. Point by point, he would revisit those arguments and explain (a little too vociferously for my tastes) why they amounted to nothing. Unfortunately, I have no examples to cite as they have all mysteriously been expunged.
I cannot comment on the issue of his "uncle" as I personally did not come across that claim. He turned out tens of thousands of words on the subject and I did not read them all, though certainly I perused a representative sampling.
To me, the whole debate about McCarthy can be simplified to the following: On one hand, "McCarthy's methods sucked," and on the other hand, "There really WERE communists in our government!" For me, and even to a certain extent Lawtarantino, those two propositions are not antithetical in and of themselves. There really were communists in our government (though the threat they represented were exaggerated by McCarthy and his ilk), and McCarthy's methods really did suck (and represented a greater threat than did communist infiltration). It's similar to the debate about Bush/Cheney's tactics to combat terrorism. On one side, we have those who insist that Bush/Cheney abused their power, and on the other side, we have those who insist that terrorism is a terrible scourge. For me, clearly, terrorism is an abhorrent tactic, and yes, Bush/Cheney abused their power and authorized war crimes. The fact that the first is true does not justify the second.
Alas, I'm not about to take up the mantle of lawtarantino--a worthy mantle, that--but I have other priorities.

worthy fight?Um, the fight was over a long, long time ago, red. You were KOd and carried out of the ring on a stretcher remember? Or are you still suffering from sock puppet withdrawal, red, bunny77, notmenotme?
