Boring movie
I slept through half of it :/
shareThen how do you know if it was boring?
I'll admit it lacked most of the action and excitement of mindless entertainment, but that was sorta the point - the film commented a couple times about that very subject.

much better than snob critics' reviews
serious
It was kind of boring, that doesn't mean I didn't like it, but I felt like I'd walked in on an episode of a show halfway through the third season. There was much that went unexplained.
"You want me? Well f*king come on and break the door down. I'm ready...I'm ready..."
its assumed that you know about Mccartyism. If you dont have a working knowledge of the era i can see how you may think that
I think this movie is a great platform for learning about McCarthyism. All you have to know going in is that he was a grandstanding politician looking willing to persecute an unpopular and politically acceptable target, so he could enhance his own power base. It's not like there are so few of those around.
He strongly reminds me of another 20th century politician who brought us brown shirts, Mein Kampf, and the Final Solution. Not to mention the good Rev. Jesse Jackson. He doesn't like Jews either.
How did you make it through school without learning about McCarthyism????
shareThat's because you're a moron. Don't worry though, there are a lot of you around these days.
Man-made disasters are natural, because man is disastrous by nature.
Certainly monotoneous and excessively muted, with all the narrative excitement deriving from the documentary material. Everything that happens around the various speeches & footage of hearings, is largely a no-show, nothing dramatically compelling despite the photography looking handsome & the acting being superb (especially by Straithairn). Also, the jazz interludes seemed out of place & sort of jarring in a movie that would have badly required some different kind of jazzing up, an injection of energy & adrenaline. All in all, a necessary & relevant picture it may be, but it´s also a somewhat failed artistic endevour; not sure Clooney should be directing stuff.

Also, the jazz interludes seemed out of place
This movie made me sleepy in a good way. I like how it takes it's time to tell a good story. I just dislike those movies that put me to sleep because it's an insufferable bore (Vanilla Sky comes to mind).
My sig: why do almost all movies on imdb have a "worst movie ever!" thread?

To judge something you fell asleep during makes the OP a dope....
But this was a boring movie that wasn't even entertaining in a documentary sense. If a no-name made this movie, no one would have ever heard of it or really cared.
2 / 10 - not worth spending 90 minutes on
Last 3 excellent movies rated - Casino, Laugh Clown Laugh, Yojimbo
Last 3 garbage movies rated - this one, Wanda, The Family Secret (1924)
I quite enjoy all you pretentious *beep* circle-jerking here in the forum. I haven't even watched the movie yet but seeing what kind of audience this seems to be catering too I maybe never will.
Someone just said that he thought a movie was boring, therefore you assume he's some kind of trailer trash.
Honestly though, you guys gave me a good laugh and I hope your parents get cancer.
I have been a fan of broadcast journalism for a long time, and I absolutely loved this movie. Actually I wish there were more films about journalism like this one and Network, The Front Page, Broadcast News, etc.
shareLet me guess: Millennial.
