Why drink coffee if they're vampires?
It doesn't make any sense...
shareThe movie purports to show vampires as a civilized society rather than just monsters. That's why everyone had jobs and families. They still carried traits from their former lives as humans. Otherwise they'd just be running around searching for humans to feast on.
shareThey drink coffee with blood in it.
I took it as they simply liked the taste similarly to how they liked it when they weren't vampires.
If you mean you implied it wouldn't have any effect on them, it's exactly the same as people drinking decaf.
It makes perfect sense. Even transformed, caffeine and nicotine still apparently affect them the same as when they were human i.e. as stimulants/appetite suppressants. With blood in such low supply, they are trying everything they can to keep their bloodlust at bay and avoid turning into the Nosferatu-style vamps.
Uh oh. Underwear on the highway. Uh oh.
Maybe I missed this, but where is it shown caffeine and nicotine still have an effect on them, past merely the vampires smoking/drinking coffee?
shareEthan Hawke smokes at the beginning - I suppose that is to supress his hunger.
shareI gather some still smoke but they aren't affected by diseases like lung cancer. As other posters have mentioned coffee drinking is still carried on to maintain cultural links with their human past, but it clearly had a blood base.🐭

Because even post-vampire apocalypse, Starbucks will still own the world.
.
Coffee is just flavored water. Blood is mostly water with plasma in it.
shareWell... they do have to stay up all night. LOL
