Cut and Paste

Take assorted scripts (The Champ, Rocky, Transformers) then cut and paste until a reasonably coherent, box ticking result emerges - standard algorithms may be applied. And yes, every story/film can be deconstructed in this way but Real Steel is a particularly obvious example.
However, and I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, it's watchable. I guess a lot is down to the personal charisma of the cast and effective fight scenes and perhaps lowered expectations - but I found it OK, actually enjoyable at times.

I liked it. You're right about the cast. Weird thing is, the original story was written by Richard Matheson. His work has been used as a template for countless films and books. If you haven't read his stuff, I highly recommend it. Duel, I am Legend, the Incredible Shrinking Man, Terror at 20000 feet, Hell House, Bid and Time Return, and What Dreams May Come. He's fun.

I liked What Dreams May Come - not sure many people did but I did. I shall have to look Richard Matheson up.
