I didn't like the boy

I liked Jackman, the robots, the setting (I'm from Michigan), but just something about the boy. Sure, most kids are self-centered, but to me he was just unlikable.

Like the scene where he and ATOM are going through an alleyway and ATOM is knocking/breaking stuff - and the kid just laughs.

Why was he such a jerk like his father, when he didn't grow up around his father? Nature vs nuture?

I didn't like him at the beginning but he got less annoying through the movie.

Midwayish through I didn't mind him at all.
