Remake of FOG was a failed gambit due to this
Yes, I was disappointed by the remake of THE FOG, but it wasn't because of Selma Blair. I was pretty much neutral about Selma Blair's rendition of Stevie Wayne. But, yeah...Selma doesn't come across like a genuine single mom. Still, I have nothing against her.
THE FOG remake failed because it became a mess. The director or the screenwriter or both of them tried to do a different schtick on the original movie and it failed, obviously. In hindsight they were better off doing a faithful remake. The risk to that is older movie viewers will complain that the remake was TOO MUCH like the original. You can't please everyone. But at least there would have been dedicated fans who would have been thoroughly delighted that the remake WAS LIKE the original. I would have been one of the grateful fans. All that needed updating was the modern timeline and the technology, ie, laptop computers, ipods, iphones, cell phones, digital cameras. The year of the movie, 2005, doesn't have the technological advancements of 2012.
Instead to falling victim to the CGI temptation, always a sure disappointment, I would have preferred to have seen the combination ghost/zombie appartitions, played by stunt actors. Everyone else agrees with me.
A faithful remake could have been more successful than trying different story angles in the actual failed remake and also relying on real actors to portray the ghosts.
