Mumbling or poor sound recording?

Quite a good thriller, but I just had to imagine a lot of the plot, as I found it very hard to make out what they were saying. (Yes, I am a native speaker!) I "rewound" a lot, but still no luck. And this is the second time I've watched the DVD (NOT a pirate copy).

I think poor sound recording. Just watched it for the first time and there are several scenes where the English is hard to understand. It seems to me like they wanted the gunfire to be overwhelmingly loud at the expense of the English and Arabic dialog.
