I had low, LOW expectations before watching this, because of all the hate I'd seen on this board, and also the 3.8 rating.
After I had finished watching it, I was like WTF?
I thought it was really good. It held my attention, I thought it was a great plot. Certainly not as good as the first one, but no sequels are.
But honestly, a 3.8 rating? The first one has a 6.8. This one deserves a 6.0 at least.
Some films get really slated more out of spite than anything. Behind the scenes problems garnered this film with a bad rep and the knives were out before it was even released. Wouldn't suprise me if a lot of the low ratings for this film was from people who haven't even seen it.

I agree with you that notorious bombs like "Basic Instinct 2" are often criticized by people who haven't even seen them. I can't imagine how the OP thought this was such a great movie, though. I enjoyed it as camp, but as a thriller it fell flat. The original movie was ridiculous too, but somehow it made a good thriller. I think in this case, the negative reaction is understandable.
shareNo it isn't a very good film, and is an insult to the original. But there are hundreds of movies out there a lot worse than this, but it seems high profile ones do get more of a kicking.
