did anyone listen to the dvd commentary?

according to the director he never heard of basic instinct before, or at least hadn't seen it! he watched the original right before they started filming, which is really kind of odd, and probably the explanation why the sequel turned out so poorly!! through out the commentary this guy was talking about how he tried to include certain elements from the first movie, like the no smoking reference and the aggressive flirting "bacause that's what the people wanted to see" and how he tried to add a new twist to it, "to make the movie feel different". this is why the whole story is set in london and not in san francisco or new york, how the original screenplay-writer intended.

frankly, my impression was that the director didn't really know what he was talking about. he wasn't interested in the original story and most likely didn't understand the psychological meaning behind the original basic instinct. instead he made a badly cast, effect-ridden blockbuster, with cheesy dialogues and cringe-worthy "sex-scenes". what a shame.
