I thought "Basic Instinct 2" was as engaging and thrilling as the first movie. I just don't understand the low rating and why if this movie is so bad then why are there multiple message pages. "Basic Instinct 2" is a good movie!

Perhaps Sharon Stone's character was just too threatening and provoked unacknowledged personal issues.

I watched it for the first time and I though it was not that bad. There are worse movies out there with ratings higher than this movie's. I think the rating on imdb for films are good most of the time with the exception of some like this one. One reason could be that this movie was not good as the first, and im sure people know that and easy to guess. I myself am yet to see the first one though. I just got the chance to see this on tv and so I did. Otherwise I would have started with the first. Anyway I gave BI2 6 out of 10.
Hot leading character, good sex scenes, story was somewhat interesting to me -in one word 'alright'- and average acting. Nothing praise-worthy. Yes, maybe the movie could've been better but the important thing for me is being engaged in watching a movie, with this i wanted to know the end and yes, i will admit with no shame, the sex scenes worked for me and i probably didn't want to miss any of that or the hot female charater i mentioned before.
I can't compare since I haven't seen BI. Once again, definitely not the worse movie you could ever watch..
I completely agree with your assessment , sean-sivam. As much as I enjoy browsing through the IMDb, I have learned to not take the movie ratings as gospel. There are just too many voters with ulterior motives to trust the ratings. Despite the ratings, "Basic Instinct 2" was a solid, entertaining movie!

I don't judge a movie based on it's rating most of the time. However, I watch the movies with good ratings and avoid others with poor ratings, because I do believe IMDb has good ratings for many films. Also many bad. With this movie the rating is far from what the movie truly deserves. It happens.

"Basic Instinct 2" was not as good as the first movie but it was still decent. The acting was not great and some parts felt slow but it was still a good mystery. "Basic Instinct 2" was 7/10 imo.

It was 'watchably mediocre' Wasn't as bad as I feared but not 'good', really as it cheats the viewer to an extent, with the lack of chemistry between Morrisey and Stone being a glaring issue.
Still, Morrisey's acting (apart from the three sex scenes) and the hilariously ripe dialogue kept it somewhat entertaining, but it did feel lengthy.
I feel as though you're trying to turn us into decorated f£ck dolls for the pleasure of men.

The whole movie was boring and laughable and no characters were likeable at all.
I thought Charlotte Rampling was way more attractive at 60 with her natural beauty than plastic Sharon Stone with her dreary one dimensional acting and the bad script writing didn't help.. One of the worst sequels I have ever seen.

I just came here because I was thinking which movie to trade in for a $5 coupon on a Bluray at Best Buy. This movie is the next one out of my house. I am embarrassed to own it.
Unlike the first one - which had great character interaction and it was actually suspenseful - this sequel feels more like trashy fun to me. You know is bad, but you still watch it just to laugh at it. It's badly acted and the dialogue is awful(sometimes it seemed like it was taken out of a cheap porn flick).
There are some moments where you get the sense Stone was intentionally making Tramell look as cheesy and ridiculous as possible. The way she delivered her lines seemed more like she was parodying the Catherine from the first film rather than reprising her. Which it's a shame, since Catherine is a great character IMO and could've been great in this one too, had it been written in a better script.
