Against my better wishes.

I watched this piece of trash and it was exactly what I thought it would be --- nothing like the Tv show. If you're going to name it after the best TV show ever than stick to the original.. Castillo is black, Rico is the star, and Jesus Christ it was hard to follow cause it was shot 90% in the dark!

Evidently, you know nothing about the TV show. If you did, you would clearly see that not only was the plot taken directly from an episode in season one, but also there were scenes that were remade, shot for shot, as well as exact dialogue taken from numerous episodes from the series, including (but not limited to):

Brother's Keeper
Hearts of Darkness
Calderone's Return Part II
Smuggler's Blues
The Prodigal Son
One Way Ticket
Streetwise
Freefall

Now, did the movie have pastel colors and a pet alligator? No, okay. I'll give you that because that's legitimate, but to say the movie is "nothing like the TV show" is absolute lunacy.

Art as expression, not as market campaigns, will still capture our imaginations

Castillo is black ...
Who the hell cares? Edward James Olmos was offered the part, but declined.
Rico is the star ...
Officially in the US, yes. In much of the rest of the world, Colin Farrell got top billing, but again, who cares? Both characters had roughly equal screen time.
... it was shot 90% in the dark!
The film was all about drug dealers and trafficking and much of this activity is far more likely to occur at night, than in the middle of the day. 🐭
