I saw the movie the other night but I am still really confused with all the twist and new people et cetra, but why was Evelyn killed? I got that Victor Sweet was making trouble for Jerry and i got that she went to the police dept to complain (?) and Fowler intercepted her complaint but I just don't see why they had to kill a little old lady.
from what i understood was that Evelyn knew everything there needs to know about Sweet so they could arrest him. That is why Fowler intercepted her complaint about Sweet so they wouldn't arrest him.. That is why they killed her, because basically she knew too much about him
Evelyn relised Jarry's problem with the project being shut down. And she knew that there was some bad corruption for the reason his project got shut down.
So she went to the police station to report the problem. This is when the dad cop got hold of this. So they had to kill her before the police were to investgate deeper into the problem.
Just judging by the way the other characters talk about her, I think Evelyn would've kept on making a big fuss at the station until they did something about it. If she realized that Fowler hadn't "done" anything about her report, she would've just gone to the station again and talked to more and more detectives until they investigated.
Jerry had a construction company that Victor Sweet wanted to muscle in on. Jerry was having none of it so Sweet informed the corrupt council man that he had in his pay to close down Jerrys business. When Evelyn got word of this she went to the police and started kicking up a fuss insinuating that Victor Sweet and the Councilman were in league with each other. Lt Green as it turns out leaked the subsequent police report to Victor Sweet and Sweet decided that Evelyn should be 'shut up'. Two men masquerading as convenience store robbers shot her.
We can't make you do anything, but we can make you wish you had!
If you listen to the dialogue after this she spoke to the Kenneth Welsh character, the lawyer who she was dating, and he started investigating the coruption so she was killed to stop that. I admit it does get rushed through.
To sum things up I think she was mainly assassinated because she stuck her noise in everyone's business. If your goal is to corrupt a town for your own personal and financial gain and you've got this meddling Mother Theresa always trying to make things right, you'd be more than a little pissy. She was killed to shut her up.
Yeah, super confusing with the "why" of why she was killed. It doesn't make any sense, it was just an excuse for a heist or shoot-out film... the "McGuffin" as they say in film school.
Didn't expect some art film, just a gritty film, almost like "The Town" but wow, it was clunky. It had such an odd pace to it and they'd gloss right over key story points. I think it might have made sense to the the production team, maybe (?), but they have to keep a first-time viewer in mind.
Makes perfect sense, I don't think ou were paying attention. She was going to the police about sweet so sweet had her killed as he didn't want her doing that.
I just watched this movie for the second time and I was confused still on why they wanted to kill Evelyn. I didn't get what Fowler had to do with it unless he was on Victor side this whole time while he was a cop.
I agree Mikey. I thought this was a great movie. Everytime it's on TV I have to finish watching it. It's Singleton directing for Christ's sake. I'm not sure why so many people have a problem with why she was killed. Knowing that Jerry's project was shut down, as soon as the lawyer told Green about a police report and Green said, "What police report?", that should have been the "Ah ha!" moment for everyone. But again, love this movie. It always gets to me when Jack dies.
